Galtier Gazette
a quick glimpse into our weekly happenings
Message from Ms. C
Greetings Galtier Families,
It is with mixed emotions that I write this message regarding the police shooting in Minneapolis last week that claimed the life of a young black man- a former SPPS student. As we entered the month of February with hopes of celebrating the history of both past and present Black people a community, our community is now mourning the loss of yet another Black person. As a district we recognize that everyone views and responds to tragedies differently and would like you to know that Galtier is prepared to navigate and meet the needs of our students.
National School Counseling Week- Better Together
Galtier/Hamline Merger
By now ALL PK- 4 families should have received a communication from school placement notifying you of your reserved seat at Hamline Elementary next school year! If you plan to attend Hamline Elementary next year you do not need to do anything- your child/ren has already been enrolled at Hamline for the upcoming school year. **Hamline's start time has been changed to 9:30 AM for the 22-23 school year**
Still have questions? Undecided about moving to Hamline Elementary?
We are working on a FAQ sheet for families to address concerns/wonderings we have heard and are working to have members of the transition team help answer questions in person once the weather is bearable.
If you are not interested in attending Hamline Elementary please use the link below to view and apply for different schools for the 22-23 school year.
PTO News
If you haven't joined the Hamline/Galtier Facebook page yet, please join the conversation! Families from both schools post their questions and ideas there to help us transition smoothly: You don't have to have decided yet whether you'll enroll in Hamline next year. (see link below)
The PTO is doing another book drive this year to send home a new book with every Gator! We have a list of books from each teacher, and we will work with the local book store Red Balloon to open the opportunity to the community to donate the books to Galtier. The PTO will also fund additional books from FirstBook. We are hoping we can get the books to school in the next few weeks! If you ever have any questions or ideas for the PTO, please reach out at galtierpto@gmail.com.
Pre-K News
PreK enjoys Library Day with our beloved Librarian, Ms Rosie. She reads, "Jabari Jumps" by Gaia Cornwall. The best part was when Ms Rosie announced that all of the children will receive their very own copy of the book to take home. These were gifted to the children by the St Paul Public Library. The children were so excited. Thank you, Ms Rosie!
Ms. Sharon's PreK would like to welcome Ms. Janelle (teaching assistant) to their classroom. Vela helps her to feel welcome with a special picture she made.
Students in Ms. Katie's PreK are adapting very well to our cold Minnesota winter! They participated in an interactive writing experience..Winter Activities! One of our PreK Prioritized Standards is "I can say how I sorted objects." Ayden gives a "thumb's up" after sorting by color.
5th Grade News
They also created a gorgeous bit of wall art as they learned about the Lunar New Year with our wonderful student teacher, Ms Do.
EDL (Extended Day Learning) is going strong!
