Intervention Strategy: Vocabulary Development
The best way to develop vocabulary for your students is exposing students to several texts on the same topic. Try creating text sets or expert packs as a way to provide complex text and expose students to a variety of Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary. Using tools like the Reading Maturity Matrix helps you to measure the level of text complexity within the Common Core grade band and identifies mature vocabulary. The Academic Word Finder is also a great tool to identify Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary in the texts you are using.
