DELRAN HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
Delran High School, an inclusive learning community, provides educational opportunities for intellectual development while valuing the importance of cultural diversity and tradition.
A Message from Mr. Finkle!
I hope that everyone had a great couple of weeks. We have one more week before Spring Break, but it is a busy one.
College Planning Night
We have our College Planning Night (Junior Parents) this evening at 6:30 in the Media Center. Our counselors will present the timeline as your child begins the college application process! Things are much different today then when we went to school many moons ago! Although everyone is welcome, this program is geared for the Class of 2025!
Waiver Assessments
If your child took a waiver assessment, the results will be emailed to you either Wednesday or Thursday of next week. I appreciate your patience as we ensure that everyone has had the opportunity to complete the assessment.
End of the Marking Period
Since next week will be the last week of the marking period, we have the Testing Schedule in place. This insures that a child does not have too many test on one day. If you have any questions, please speak directly to your child's teacher! In addition, since the marking period will end next Thursday, grades will not be posted until April 11th, after Spring Break!
Eclipse
There will be a Partial Solar Eclipse on April 8th from 2:08 pm until 4:35 pm. HERE is information from our science department. It is imperative that you DO NOT look directly at the eclipse without proper eyewear. We will be providing everyone with proper glasses during Period 9 on April 8th. All sports contests have been moved from this date in order to keep everyone safe! This document also contains a video explaining why these phenomena occur and how to view it safely! Please note, this will be a total eclipse of the sun, not the heart.
Summer Reading
I am very pleased to announce the books for this year's Delran Reads! program. Your children were introduced to these books earlier this week and their final decision must be made by tomorrow! Here is the presentation which lists all of the choices for this summer. We have a wide range of topics and styles. Please speak with your child and make sure that he/she/they have made their choice! Thank you very much!
Cell Phones!!!!
I read this article from the AP about texting children during the school day. We have certainly had our share of texts that students receive in the building that negatively affected their day. We have had parents texting that their pet dies or their grandparent died. I know it is hard to believe; however, I can tell you first hand that it has happened! Read this article and think about how the constant interruptions affect your child's concentration here at school. Most of us are guilty! I know that I am at times as well, so I will continue to read, learn, and take the suggestions of the experts! In addition, since we do have students place their phones in a caddy, please think about taking old phones so that they are not putting a dead phone in the caddy and keeping their phone on them. Lack of concentration is leading to lower success rate on assessment, both local as well as standardized. Our job is to teach your children; however, if we do not have their attention, it is ever more difficult for us to do our job. We need to work together to help the young adults that we share, to make better decisions when it comes to their cell phones.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or (856) 461-6100 x3005.
From the Classrooms
Math
Students in Mr. DeLoche’s Honors Geometry classes recently completed a vectors project. Their task was to create a vehicle or delivery system to send an object from one point to another. An additional challenge came in the form of an additional vector that would interfere with the original path. Students needed to calculate the resulting vector and correct for its effects, to ensure their vehicle would make it to its original destination. This engaging project allows students to design real-world solutions that use applications of the geometry concepts they are learning.

SPECTATOR’S CODE (Family & Friends)
The larger school community has an interest and investment in the success of our Athletic Program. These adults play a key role in reinforcing the educational goals of our program. Therefore, we expect these important program supporters to do the following:
- Be a positive role model through their behavior at athletic contests.
- Show respect for the opposing players, coaches, spectators, and support groups.
- Be respectful of all officials’ decisions.
- Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team.
- Praise student-athletes in their attempt to improve themselves as students, as athletes, and as people.
- Gain an understanding and appreciation for the rules of the sport.
- Reinforce our alcohol, tobacco, and other drug-free policies by refraining from the use of any such substances before and during athletic contests.
- Remember that admission to a school athletic event is a privilege to observe the contest.
If you are unable to attend home DHS contests, the main gym possesses a Pixellot camera that allows you to live stream contests from the comfort of your own home or any internet device. Use the following website in order to subscribe to the NFHS Network, https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/delran-high-school-delran-nj. In order to watch the games live, you must subscribe. It is a paid streaming service. The cost is $11.99 per month which allows you to watch all home basketball games and wrestling matches, as well as any away contests by schools who also use the Pixellot system.
