"We exist so children can excel."
What We're Learning in Challenge
We have begun The Hundred Dresses, about Wanda Petronski, a Polish immigrant child in the 1930s. As Wanda's story unfolds, her classmates learn the secret of the hundred dresses and with it, a lesson in tolerance, in taking responsibility and in living with the consequences of one’s actions. The reading of this classic corresponds nicely to our MCS building-wide character trait of responsibility.

One of the culminating activites from Wonder was for the students to write a speech deserving of a standing ovation. Let me tell you, these students pulled it off in grand fashion. They had written their speeches as an extended response to the literature, but it was a last minute decision to actually deliver them. Thank goodness we did. They gave us "goosies" and earned the much-deserved standing ovations. We are enjoying Maniac Magee and are making connections to the realistic fiction aspects of our new novel.
