Cougars Curling
Crestomere Curling Teams attended the Wolf Creek Junior High Curling Bonspiel on Thursday and had a great day of curling! The Klimec rink placed first overall in the bonspiel, winning the "J" curling championship banner! We might mention that they also beat the "JJ/JJJ" banner team... This team has been playing with the Lacombe Junior Curling program throughout the year, and attended the U15 Provincial Qualifiers, and the Alberta Winter Games in Grande Prairie - they've really grown as a team throughout the season, and shown great talent through the high-level curling they've experienced this year! Reid Klimec is the skip of the team, with Carson Frank as third, Josiah Steeves playing second, and Eli Barker as lead. Reid has been entering the Curling Canada U15 world through Alberta Rockfest, and qualified for the Western Canada Rockfest competition, in which he placed 6th in Alberta.
Steven Spelt led his curling team to a Bronze Medal finish in the bonspiel, showing great leadership in pulling his new team together. Steven also curled with Lacombe Junior Program for the past several years, and played with team Crestomere in the U15 Provincial Qualifiers. The Spelt rink had rookie curler Ash Sargent as third, Coby Janssens playing second (a great prospect from the Ponoka Junior Curling program), and Sloane Butcher throwing lead stones, showcasing her talent from her Sedgewick school curling days. This team really pulled together and medalled after only one loss in pool play.
We are wishing our five grade 9 curling boys all the best as they continue their curling careers in the future! Many thanks also to the coaches that have developed these curlers throughout the past 4 years! As well, thanks to the parents for the driving, snacks, and time put into developing these teams. What a year!
