A Few Words to Our Military-Connected Families
Health Careers calls on our military-connected families to join us in our journey as we work toward strengthening and expanding our community's awareness of the unique needs and experiences of military families and students. If you are willing, we are asking our military-connected families to complete this Military Families Questionnaire to provide us with specific information about your family and how we can better serve your needs. All responses will be kept private and confidential. In the near future, we will also call for volunteers to help us form our first-ever Military Family Advisory Committee. We hope you will join us!
Also, for our military-connected families - you asked and we heard you. Many of you have requested scholarship information that is relevant to military-connected service. Please see the attached PDF for a listing of scholarships that are just for you provided to us by our Military School Liaison Office on JBSA Lackland.
Lastly, all families are welcome to join our Military School Liaison at the STEM & Cyber Expo on Friday, April 5th, 2024 from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. See the flyer below for a list of exhibitors.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the HCHS Family Military Liaison Jeffery Moss at jeffery.moss@nisd.net or at (210) 397-5409.

Attendance--What is the Difference Between Excused and Unexcused?
Excused absences: personal illness, family funerals, medical appointments, court appointments with a subpoena, church/religious trips with documentation, and family emergencies with explanation.
Unexcused absences: family trips, car trouble/flat tire, missing the bus/ride, oversleeping,, caring for a sibling, busy traffic, court appointments for traffic violations, notes without all pertinent information, and of course, a confirmed truancy.
The accrual of multiple unexcused absences will result in a parent conference, a warning notice, and possibly, legal action. In addition, juniors and seniors will not qualify for off campus lunch if they have any unexcused absences.
Health vs. EADN (Excused Absences - Non-Health -Doctor Note): Health absences do not count against a student's attendance. However, a student must be on campus for part of the school day and bring in a doctor's note. A doctor's note counts as an excused absence if a student is absent for the whole school day.
