Hello from the principal's desk!
May 17th,
Hello everyone! We had Coffee with the Principal today, and had about 20 families in attendance. Pretty good turnout! I got some good feedback about things that are going well here, and ways we can make changes for next year. I am hopeful you feel like there are good ways for you to share your good ideas with me and my team - both for things going well and things to improve. Here is a community survey put out to ALL schools in Alameda, it would be great to get some feedback. You could also just email me directly, or stop me on the yard before or after school. It is my full intention to make this the best school for ALL of our kids, and I need you to help get us there!
We held our Bike Rodeo this past weekend, and it was a blast! So many different community partnerships - Bike East Bay, AC Transit, Limebike, Kiwanis, Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools... am sure I missed others. It was really fun seeing our kids wearing their helmets, getting their bikes fixed, riding around on the course. See below for some pics from the event! SPecial thanks to our own Alyson Ferguson, from our Coast Guard community, for her work organizing the event. From attending meetings two months ago, to showing up on site at 8:30 am to start preparing, it was a lot of work and she is fabulous. So thank you Alyson!
We also had the Robotics festival this weekend at Wood Middle School! Ruby's Robots were in full force, and had two teams of 8 kids each. We didn't win, but we sure had a ton of fun and were incredibly spirited. See below for more pics.
We took some of our 5th graders involved on our STEAM team to a Makerfaire at Salesforce this week. Thanks to Mandie Cline and Joe Golling for networking and organizing the trip. The kids had a blast on the ferry and touring the Salesforce building. They got to meet the founder of the company!
About 25 of the staff and I are going to the Makerfaire down in San Mateo this Saturday. If you have a couple of hours on your hands this weekend, you should check it out with the whole family. Some pretty cool stuff going on in the world right now. You can also listen to our newest podcast with Mandie Cline posted below to hear more about our work with STEAM education!
With love and gratitude,
Jesse Woodward
The Yearbook is almost here!
Hi Ruby Bridges families!
This is a special message from PTA about the 2017/2018 YEARBOOK... ITS HERE! We will be passing out the books on Monday, June 4th, so please order yours today! They are $10 each, and we would like to ask if you are able, to donate a few extra bucks so that EVERY student can recieve one. Making and selling the Yearbook has never been a fundraiser for our PTA, (in fact we have never fully recouped the costs of printing), but if we all contribute we can make sure that we are able to do this every year.
Yearbooks are a celebration of the Students and their academic journey. They show the school’s community and the friendships made over the past year. Featuring hundreds of wonderful photos taken since back in August, your family will cherish this book for years to come.
Students can give their Teachers the $10 (or more!) payment in an envelope.

Please return the form by May 25th and send the donations to school by May 31st. All donations should be clearly marked "FOR 5th GRADE PROMOTION". Questions? - contact Mrs. Furuichi Fong
