Sunset View Newsletter
Week of March 25th
Message from Jennifer
A huge THANK YOU to Courtney Karlin-Kirian and her incredible team of volunteers for making this year's PWP a night to remember! Studio 24 was packed, and everyone was there to party and have a good time in their disco finest. I continue to be blown away by the generosity of our families and know I speak on behalf of the entire Sunset View staff when I say thank you. KidsFirst is the ultimate partner in education and we could not do what we do for our students without the support of all of our families. I hope those in attendance had a wonderful evening! Thank you all for supporting our special school!
We have minimum days this Wednesday through Friday for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Dismissal is at 12:45 for all students those days. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions about conferences.
24-25 PrimeTime After Care Program
Enrollment is now open for the new 24-25 PrimeTime program at Sunset View. The application must be completed and submitted online by Friday, April 12, at 9:59 pm PST to be included in the initial review and enrollment process. PrimeTime is separate from the fee based SAY program and does have different requirements.
- Priority registration for 2024-25 has changed following the California Department of Education (CDE) Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) grant requirements. Students who meet at least one of the following criteria will be given priority registration.
- Homeless/foster youth (highest priority)
- Multilingual (English Language Learner)
- Free or reduced-price meal eligibility based on the LCFF Income form.
- If a program reaches capacity, the submission date and time will be considered. For all other students not meeting the above criteria, registration will be a first come, first served based on program capacity.
We recommend that you apply for both programs and make decisions based on availability. Please click on button below for further details.

2023/2024 California School Parent Survey - Please Complete!
The purpose of this survey is to obtain parent perceptions about the school.
Your participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information you provide will help guide district and school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, and improve student achievement.
This is an anonymous survey. It is designed so that no one can be identified from the data. You do not have to respond to any questions that you feel could be used to identify you. Simply skip any such questions.
All questions apply to this school only.
The results are for the use of your district. The California Department of Education and WestEd will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the district.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING THE SURVEY
If you have more than one child at this school, you will only need to complete one survey for this school. Please fill out just one survey about the school using your oldest child as a reference.
Access the survey using the following URL:
Parent: https://wested.ugam-apps.com/wested/ts/nw9k (when opening the link, choose parent survey/take survey, then select language)
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble taking the survey, check the following:
Make sure you are entering the web site address correctly.
Does the survey welcome page show the correct name of your school?
Make sure you have entered the URL (in the URL bar, NOT THE SEARCH BAR)
Still having trouble? Contact your survey coordinator.
National Nutrition Month!
School meals are rich in lean protein, which provides nutrients important for maintaining your health and body. Proteins function as building blocks for bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Check your school menu to see what protein is being served today https://bit.ly/4bC5zhl #schoolnutrition #greatschoolfood

Believe it or not, we are already thinking ahead to next year! In order to plan our classes for the 2024-2025 school year we need to have some idea of our expected enrollment count for August 2024. Enrollment for new to Sunset View students will begin in late February. We will provide additional details as we get closer to that date.

Reminders
Parking Reminders
Parking is not easy at Sunset View, but I ask that all parents please adhere to certain parking and safety protocols in order to ensure everyone's safety and ability to get to school.
1. Please do not park in the staff parking lot. Staff members arrive at varying times of day, and rely on their parking spot to be open for a timely arrival. Please do not park in the staff parking lot at any time. Just last week we had several teachers late for meetings, and a teacher's car was sideswiped, due to unauthorized parking.
2. Please do not use the staff parking lot as a turn-around during drop-off or pick-up.
3. Please do not park in or block our neighbors' driveways. Their schedules are not the same as ours and they need access to their driveways to get to and from where they are going.
Thank you for your help with this!
Health Office Needs
Our Health Office is in need of new underwear and gently used pants for boys and girls in the following sizes.
- Sizes 4, 5, 6 for girls (especially underwear)
- Sizes 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 for boys
NO DOGS ALLOWED ON CAMPUS
I have recently seen many dogs on campus during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Thank you to those that have been leaving your dogs outside the school gates. Although we love your pets, they are not allowed on campus. Please do not bring pets past the school gates. Please see the district policy below.
Policy Reminder - Animals on Campus
- Animals are permitted at school only when needed for the instructional program and when
under the strict control of qualified instructors or handlers.
-Animals must be obtained from a reliable source and have written certifications that
they are in good health and are not carriers of dangerous disease-causing organisms.
- Hamsters, white rats, black widow spiders, rattlesnakes, and banded psittacine
(parrot-like) birds are too dangerous to have at school.
-Therapy and Service Dogs are allowed with proper certification.
Pets at school: Domestic pets shall not be allowed in classrooms, on or around campus.
Get Your Volunteer Application In!
Be sure to complete your volunteer application complete with TB verification. Our Office Staff can help you with your application and Nurse Paloma can help with TB. Nurse Paloma is here on Wednesdays.
Attendance
Please do not send your child to school when they are sick. From the District’s Wellness department, please review the Guidelines for Parents on Keeping Ill Students Home.
When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2000 by 9:30 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email sunselm@sandi.net.
Any child arriving after 9:00 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time.
