Thursday's Thoughts
August 25, 2016
Colt's Customs
We went over the first 10 Colt's Customs in our house meetings yesterday. Please make sure you have these posted in your rooms and refer to them as needed. We will go over the remaining Colt's Customs through morning announcements. Also, help us to point them out in the lobby especially to our little ones. Our Colt's Customs are our foundation and beliefs for our school, and we want our students to know them well.
Grade book
We will be trained on the new grade book Sept. 6th. Until then, you may want to keep a paper copy. I apologize for the lateness of the training, but the new grade book does have features that you will like.
T-Shirts
If you would like to purchase a house shirt, please give your money to Reggie along with your size and house. We are unable to purchase house shirts for you since we did buy the orange shirts for you, House shirts are $10,
Hospitality Dues
Our school family continues to grow along with the needs of our staff. Because of our size, hospitality dues will go up this year to $40 for certified staff and $20 for non-certified staff. We want to make sure we always have the money to take care of each other. Please give your money to Reggie as soon as you can.
Debbie has worked on our guidelines, and I will give you a copy at our faculty meeting. We will have meal teams this year. Debbie is going to help us with this so that we know when to provide a meal. Please keep us posted of needs so that we can provide meals when needed.
Master Calendar
Please make sure you are referring to our master google calendar. If you do not have access to the calendar, please let me know. We are adding dates daily.
Grade Level Nights
Rather than have an open house in September just for parent visits, please be thinking of a grade level night. This would be a time for your parents to come into your class for you to go over any information that would be important for them to know. This would be a good time to show them apps you use, give them tips for their child to be successful at school, etc. We will talk more about this in the coming weeks.
Faculty Meetings
Please continue to "protect" Tuesdays keeping them free of appointments. We will use Tuesdays as our meeting day where we all need to be present. We have two faculty meetings scheduled now- August 30th and Sept. 6th.
Attendance
Thank you for making taking attendance a priority.
The First Twenty Days
Make sure you are utilizing the First Twenty Days in your reading workshop plans. We will talk more about our goal of creating a "Literacy Culture" in our school at our August 30th faculty meeting.
September 26th
Jane Harrison has asked that the September 26th staff development for the district be held at our school! She wants district teachers to see our school- this is so exciting! Please make sure you are present on the 26th. This will be the second day of the literacy course we are all required to attend.
Language Line
Laura Reeves sent out an email earlier about Language Line. I will place a flyer in your boxes tomorrow. This is a very simple way to communicate with families who do not speak English. Let us know if you have questions.
Parent Contact
Please make positive contacts with parents over the next few weeks. This will go a long way especially with those parents you may need to contact with concerns in the future. Please call, send texts, notes, etc. to say something positive in the coming days.
International Literacy Day- Sept. 8th
We will talk about this more August 30th, but I did want to go ahead and let you know that we are going to use the week of the 8th to promote the love of reading. We would like to pull off of the First Twenty Days by choosing our favorite book or sharing our favorite reading memory. During this week, we will dress up like our favorite character from our favorite book. Go ahead and be thinking of your book and how you will dress up. :-)
