Shiloh Point Elementary
Welcome Back 2018 Newsletter
A Letter from Mr. Hershey
Dear Parent or Guardian:
Welcome back to the 2018-2019 school year at Shiloh Point Elementary! I hope that your family had a safe and relaxing summer filled with many great experiences.
It has been very busy at Shiloh Point over the past couple of months. Our custodial staff, office staff, admin team, teachers, instructional support staff, and PTO have worked many hours preparing for the upcoming year. Our mission at Shiloh Point is to provide our students with “a Home for the Mind, Body, and Spirit.” We will continue to be guided by the Forsyth County Learner Profile as our end goal for each child. The main objective of the Learner Profile is to “Grow Leaders for Success” in the following areas:
- Pursue Continuous Learning
- Exhibit Strong Personal Qualities
- Utilize Creative and Critical Thinking
- Engage and Contribute
- Interact Effectively
We are also excited to welcome 20 new staff members and many new families to our Shiloh Point community. Although Shiloh Point is one of the largest elementary schools in the district, we strive to make our school feel small and connected so that each child can learn at their highest level. Please take a minute to welcome our new families and staff members as they begin their new journey at Shiloh Point Elementary.
Communication is extremely important to me as I know this is a critical part of the partnership between home and school. Below are a few ways that we communicate to parents:
- Teacher Newsletter/Email (distribution list created by homeroom teacher)
- Facebook (facebook.com/shilohpointes/)
- Remind (text messages—to sign up, text “@shilohpt” to 81010
- Campus Messenger (email --- please make sure that your contact information is correct within parent portal)
- School-wide Monthly Newsletter (sent by Remind, Campus Messenger, and posted on Website)
- School Webpage (http://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/shilohpoint)
As principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to email me if you would like to set up an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas. I look forward to seeing each of you during the school year.
Thank you,
Derrick Hershey, Principal

The 7 Mindsets
As we work towards the development of the whole child based on the FCS Learner Profile, Shiloh Point will continue to use The 7 Mindsets as our school leadership and character development program in order to support our vision of “mind, body, and spirit” Our PTO has partnered with us to provide all of our teachers with unlimited access to The 7 Mindsets curriculum, which will be reinforced in the classroom on a weekly basis. We will be sending additional information throughout the year about The 7 Mindsets, but in the meantime, you can visit their webpage at http://7mindsets.com/about/ or you can watch this video.

Mindset 2: Passion First

Car Rider Line Procedures
To all car riders: The goal is to make the car rider experience more efficient for all families to reduce the amount of tardies and give our students an opportunity to have plenty of time to get ready for learning. Please follow the traffic pattern below by snaking through the parking lot for drop-off. When exiting, please turn right to alleviate any backup in the parking lot. Please be respectful of the neighborhoods by not doing u-turns through their roads. We are recommending that you go down to Ronald Reagan Blvd. and then turn right to get back to 141. Thank you again!
Morning Drop-off
Students can only be dropped off directly in front of our building (indicated by the green line in the diagram below.)
Afternoon Pick-up
We are asking that as you pick up your child, please remain in the line until the car in front of you pulls forward.
For a list of all procedures, please click here.
***Note - On the first day of school, we will allow cars that are dropping off to drive straight through to the drop-off zone. For those that would like to park and walk their child in, you are welcome to park in the spaces. We will begin our typical car rider line "Zig-Zag" formation on Friday, August 3rd.
