Junior Optimist Club is “rolling in the new year” with a toilet paper drive for the Manna House. Students may drop off rolls of toilet paper in Mrs. Braudaway’s room C112 and Mrs. Thompson’s room N133. Toilet paper drive will last until February 20th.
Second Semester Fee Deadline - The fee deadline for second semester is February 20. Students with outstanding class fees after that date will be added to the debtor's list. Visit the school website for a list of fees. Fees may be paid at www.myschoolfees.com or to Mrs. Weir.
Youth Speed and Agility School - All male athletes who are currently in 4th-7th grade are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Hazel Green Speed and Agility School. Join the football coaches every Tuesday and Thursday night from 5:30-6:30pm in the football complex to work on quickness, proper form, overall athleticism and work ethic. The school runs from January 7th-March 20th, and the cost is FREE!

MVMS Band Auction - The Meridianville Middle School Band will hold their annual Auction on Saturday, March 7 from 2-5pm in the Eagle Gym at Meridianville MS. No Admission, and lots of great stuff up for auction! Please support your middle school band by coming by and participating in the auction!

Prom will be April 24th. Tickets on sale now for $75 per person.
Girls Dress Code:
1. Excessive cleavage is not allowed.
2. Dress may be backless as long as it is not cut below the waist.
3. Navel may not be exposed.
4. No pinning will be allowed as an alteration for a dress if, without the pinning, the dress does not meet dress code.
5. Dress should not be excessively short or pulled up when dancing.
Boys Dress Code:
1. Suits or tuxedos should be worn.
3. Shirts must be buttoned up to the second button from the collar.
4. Pants should fit properly on the hip and not sag below the waistline.

FAFSA - To apply for most financial aid, including federal and state student grants, work-study, and loans, you’ll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). January 1 is the first day you can file the FAFSA. You should try to file as close to this date as possible. College, state and private aid deadlines may be much earlier than federal deadlines. You may submit your own design or one of our talented staff members will create one for you. Pricing: 1/8= $75, 1/4=$95, 1/2=$130, Full page= $180, 2 page spread= $275. No WORD documents please. Balfour - All cap and gown payments/ graduation fees are due no later than May 1. Payment must be made directly to Balfour . Parents may call them at 205-733-1060 and make payment over the phone or email and arrange payment with them at alabamabalfour@gmail.com. They will be on campus February 17th and 18th and then again on March 5th and 6th.

The Science and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) application season is now open. SEAP is an established DoD Outreach internship. An eligible candidate for SEAP is any high school student with an interest and aptitude for STEM. The summer internships duration is eight weeks and is designed to engage students in hands-on activities and student/mentor relationships that encourage careers in science and engineering. This program allows students to apprentice in fields of their choice with experienced scientists and engineers. Students are treated as research assistants. The Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program
is an Army Educational Outreach program that enables students to experience science and engineering in real-world Army laboratory settings. The AMRDEC GEMS program is focused on age/grade-appropriate hands‐on activities in areas such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computational science, physics, optics, robotics, chemistry, and others. Students receive a stipend to participate in this one‐week program. The 2015 stipend amount for all GEMS participants is $100. Eligibility Requirements: Students in grades 8th - 12th, who are U.S. citizens with a valid SSN Dates: June 8-12 and June 15-19. Applications available online.
Regions Riding Forward Essay Contest - Write about an African-American who has inspired and motivated you and you could win a $5,000 or $3,500 scholarship. Your essay should, in 500 words or less:
US Air Force Engineering/STEM Camp - The United States Air Force Academy and Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) offers an Engineering/STEM camp designed for high school students who excel in math, science and technology courses and are interested in pursuing engineering, architecture, or a related field in college or a military service academy. This one week camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado is high energy and hands-on for students from across the country and around the world. Some of the activities during the week-long camp include: place a concrete beam and destructive testing, water purification, build an irrigation system, material testing, shed construction, AFA laboratory tours, problem-solving activities and many more. This year's camp runs from June 25 to July 1, 2015, information on the application process and eligibility can be found here.
HudsonAlpha Internships - Each internship opportunity is crafted with specific skill sets in mind and are open to participants based on education level and area of concentration. Click here for a complete list of internship opportunities. Interns will begin their summer experiences June 1, 2015, with a weeklong Biotech Boot Camp. Internships will conclude July 31. The online application for the summer of 2015 BioTrain internships program is now open. Applications will be accepted online through February 15, 2015. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week - Applicants must be a high school senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and display a history of athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as community/civic involvement. All weekly winners are invited to a banquet held in their honor in May, and two students are selected as Athletes of the Year. The two Athletes of the Year each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Trojan Daily Tips - All the newest information will be at the top, followed by our Athletic Schedules, Current Announcements, Senior Information and Permananent Announcements. Information from previous newsletters remains posted in Current Announcements until it expires. I welcome parents to send scores, pictures and updates from any Hazel Green sports or activities. We can't brag about it if we don't know about it. Scholarship and college visit information will only be posted once, and then it can be found on separate webpages for General Scholarships, College and University Scholarships, and School Visits and Special Programs.
Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form in to Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.
Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors during school. All students are strongly encouraged to utilize this service provided to us. For more information, visit http://www.actstudent.org/onlineprep/.
First Priority/FCS meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.
Parenting Assistance Line: PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.
Recycle: Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Reward Cards: Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
Loyalty Reward Tags: (Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag. Just stop by the main office to pick one up.
