April 2018
Book Fair Wrap-up
Our spring book fair concluded on March 23rd, with a total of nearly $6000 in sales. This translates to about $1600 for our library to purchase new books and pay the yearly licensing fee for our library automation system. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped and the parents, students, and teachers who shopped!
National School Library Month
April is National School Library Month, and I love that this year's theme is "Making Connections." This goes right along with our house system and the "4houses1family" hashtag. My goal is to help students make connections to books so that a love of reading and libraries takes root and stays with them for a lifetime.
Review of Hello Universe by Erin Entrada Kelly
The 2018 Newbery winner is Hello Universe. Due to former librarian Mrs. Frankie Smith's excellent collection development skills, we already had this title in our collection! This is a beautiful story of three children who struggle to fit the norm. These "misfit kids" must triumph over their own personal adversities to find each other and realize they are not alone.
End of the School Year Info
It's hard to believe that we are speeding toward the end of the school year in just eight short weeks. The last day to check out books will be Friday, May 4th, and the last day to return all books will be Friday, May 11th. Any books not returned by May 11th will be subject to a replacement cost. See Mrs. Lee for the cost if you have lost library books. The library will be closed for the last two weeks of school in order to conduct the yearly inventory.
