High Performance Learning School
Introduction by Mrs L Daniels and Ms B Ruth, Co-Acting Assistant Headteachers
We hope you have had a blissful Easter holiday and are as eager as we are for the sun to shine as we welcome in the summer term. The Spring term was a busy one and our final week was no different with an incredible Culture Day for year seven to nine with cultural performances, cultural driven curriculum lessons and yet more cultural inter-house competitions. Students who met the whole school criteria received our termly reward which was the ever popular inflatable session. We look forward to celebrating more successes with students in the next summer rewards event.
As we kick off the summer term, for year 11 and 13, this is a particularly crucial time for them to maximise their potential and open doors to the next stage in their academic journey. In that spirit we would like to congratulate all students from year 11 and 13 who attended our Easter revision sessions with either Colton Hills staff or through the PET-Xi provider. Speaking to many students who attended these sessions, they found it valuable and worthy of their precious holiday.
To support our young people in this critical time, we ask families to encourage your young person to take advantage of these opportunities. For both cohorts of students, we will continue to deliver after school intervention sessions till 4pm with subject specialist, with a focus on good study habits such as having a quiet space free from distractions and devices and appropriate revision strategies. All students have developed a bespoke revision timetable that we hope is sitting pride of place on your fridge and is being actively applied. The impact of students working independently is essential for the best outcomes and we advise students to study little and often and to find revision methods that work best for them as every learner is different. We wish all our students the very best of luck in the exams and will continue to offer high quality support to students leading up to and throughout the exam period.
The school calendar is just as busy for other year groups, with year 10 and 12 sitting mock exams, trips to Gelliwig for year 10 and year 7 students, our annual whole school Big Bang Fair, year 7 Bikeability, Prom for year 11 and 13, Excellence Evenings and more.
Year 10 Gelliwig Residential Trip, 12 - 14 April
Our Year 10 students went on an exciting trip to Gelliwig Residential Centre last week. They managed to scale the walls at Beacon Climbing Centre, took a trip to Zip World Bounce Below, where they enjoyed trampoline-style nets in a disused mine as well as enjoy the seabreeze and cave exploring at Criccieth beach.
Our group also enjoyed some down time at the residential centre with their friends, playing games, pool and helping out with chores. Thank you to our Colton Hills staff - Mrs Fox, Mrs Tolliday, Mr Jackson and Mr Patel for chaperoning and making sure everyone had a great time!
Sixth Form BTEC Results Day, 21 March
On Thursday, 21 March, we celebrated our Year 13 & 12 students receiving their excellent BTEC results! There were some happy tears shed and many big smiles all round. Huge congratulations to all of them (and their teachers) who have worked hard to achieve these outcomes.

Spring 2 Rewards Day
Our Colton Hills Spring Reward Day was a tremendous success as always! Students from year 7 to 11 who met the criteria took part in the inflatable activities, ranging from team football, penalty shoot out, slide and the gladiator challenge. Well done to all who qualified! Keep an eye out for the Summer term reward!
Colton Hills Cultural Day, 22 March
We had the most amazing Cultural Day on our last day of school before the Easter holidays. There was a range of international snacks available for food tasting, cultural performances, quizzes, games, calligraphy, & lots of colourful cultural costumes on show by students and staff. Students & staff looked beautiful in their attire and it was a lovely end to our busy Spring term.
An Inspector Calls and Macbeth Production for KS4
KS4 students were treated to a performance on Friday, 22nd March by production house Katch22. They treated our Key Stage 4 students, who are studying these plays as part of their English curriculum to the the production of "An Inspector Calls" and "Macbeth". It was great to see the scripts brought to life!
