Principal's Message
Happy New Year Dolphin Families!
I would like to extend best wishes to all for a happy and healthy new year. I hope everybody had a restful break and enjoyed a wonderful holiday period. Thank you for all of the sweet treats, cards, positive comments, and gifts in December. These treats definitely made my holiday much sweeter. It is a pleasure to get to serve this school with such an amazing staff. Being your principal, is a treasure in itself.
January is School Board Recognition Month. They continue to work hard on behalf of all the schools, staff, and students in LCISD. I am so appreciative of their investment in time and dedication to making the best decisions for our district. They value all feedback so please be sure to complete the survey below if you haven't already.
The roof should be completed sometime this week. The company will be working on preparing the grounds to restore the beautiful landscaping and sidewalks in the front that were there before construction started. Thank you all for your patience through this process. I am excited to see the end result very soon!
Just a friendly reminder as the temperatures dip here in Sugarland, children need to be dressed appropriately to come to school and to play at recess time. Please be sure to label your child's first and last name in their jackets. This will help us be able to return them to your children when they are misplaced.
I understand that leggings are in style. Please be sure if leggings or tights are worn, they must be under shorts, skirts, or jumpers. Our staff appreciates your help with this.
Here is a look at what is happening at your school as we kick off 2023 together! As always, please contact the school regarding any questions you may have. We are looking forward to starting the spring semester strong!
Kindly,
Channon Almendarez

Instructional Calendar Feedback
What date would you like your student to return to school at the end of summer? Would a Fall long weekend be beneficial to your family? What is the best time for your student to arrive on campus? Would a later arrival time negatively impact extra curricular activities caused by a later dismissal time?
your Feedback is Important!
On Friday, December 2 parents received an e-mail from K12 Insite on behalf of Lamar CISD asking for feedback about our 2022-2023 School Calendar option and implementing staggered start times. This feedback is critical to Lamar CISD as important decisions are needing to be made for planning purposes next year.
The survey is available from December 1, 2022 - January 6, 2023.
If you are unable to locate the e-mail, simply use this link to take the survey: https://survey.k12insight.com/r/2324ParentAcademicCalendar
January Beanstack Reading Challenge
For the month of November, our Dolphins read and logged over 73,000 minutes and our total minutes read so far this school year is over 348,800!!! Also, for the second month in a row, Dickinson has had the highest percentage of students participating in our reading challenges. Way to go!
Thank you to all who log their reading in Beanstack! Let's keep reading and logging our Beanstack minutes with our January Reading Challenge (please see below).
Kids Heart Challenge
Coming Soon! Dickinson Elementary School is joining forces with the American Heart Association for KIDS HEART CHALLENGE. Students will be excited to “Slay the dragon of heart disease and stroke!” and by Being the Torch, they will shine their light towards ways our community can be healthier.
Along the way students will not only learn life skills, but ALSO LIFE-SAVING SKILLS! Together, we are expecting to make a huge impact – we hope your family will learn the life-saving skill of hands-only CPR, raise awareness that will make our community safer, and raise funds to fight heart disease and stroke. Meet Hearty and start the Quest today!
GET STARTED ON THE QUEST:
1. Visit our school’s Kids Heart Challenge page: http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?fr_id=7560&pg=company&company_id=378989 OR download the Kids Heart Challenge app to get started.
2. Students who are signed up by our kickoff on 1/9/2023 will receive a Torch Wristband and some of the collectable dragons.
This year we’ll be calling all students to be Extraordinary – meet Chey and Charlie to see how you can get involved and Dr. Taylor shares with students all a Cardiologist does!

SMART TAG REMINDER- Message from LCISD Transportation
Dear Lamar CISD Parents,
We are requesting every student bus rider be prepared to show their Smart Tag identification badge when they board and exit transportation starting on Monday, November 28, 2022, the first day we return from the Thanksgiving Break.
The Smart Tag ID badge is a safety tool for students, parents, and drivers. The photo immediately identifies the student, and the vertical or horizontal orientation indicates secondary or elementary grade levels. The badge allows parents to check the exact times when a student boards and exits the bus. Additionally, the Parent Portal gives users the ability to see where the bus is in live time.
The Elementary and Secondary Student Handbooks do require students to have their Smart Tag ID badge when they board and exit the bus (see p. 64 for Elementary; see p. 51 for Secondary). Based on the student’s grade level, there may be consequences for a student who does not show their Smart Tag for 5 consecutive days (5 days for Secondary). We encourage parents to visit our district website for more information on Smart Tags in the student handbook (https://www.lcisd.org/departments/).
For the safety of our students and staff, we want all bus riders to follow this rule and may enforce a “No Tag, No Ride” rule in the future. If your student has not received their ID badge, please contact your campus directly. We appreciate your understanding, and we look forward to working together in making sure all students arrive to school and get home safely every day.

Birthday Book Club
If you would like to join the Dickinson Library Birthday Book Club, please scan the QR code below. This will take you directly to our donation site where you can view and purchase a book to donate to our library in honor of your child's birthday. Books are shipped from the company approximately once per month. Once the book arrives, your child's picture will be taken and they will be the first person to checkout the new book. Thank you for supporting our library!
Typing Club on Class Link
Our Digital Learning Team will be sponsoring two TypingClub incentives for the remainder of September thru October. The “Login Lollies” incentive will be for kindergarten thru 1st grades and the “Cool Club” incentive will be for 2nd thru 5th grades. Read more about these incentives:
- Login Lollies (K-1st grade) – The Digital Learning Team will be awarding lollipops to Kinder and 1st grade classrooms where 100% of students can log into a district device without assistance. Teachers can fill out this form Login Lollies 22-23 when 100% of their students can login successfully with their district credentials. A member of the Digital Learning team will deliver the lollipops to the classroom.
- “Cool Club” (2nd – 5th grade) – The Digital Learning Team will be awarding freezer pops to the top class at each grade level, 2nd – 5th, at every elementary campus with the highest performance (total time in program, accuracy, words per minute). These reports will be run at the end of October and freezer pops will be delivered to the winning classrooms.
Help support our Dickinson teachers by accessing typing club from home using the class link button on the lcisd website. This will also help our students get recognized and hopefully earn a treat. Please ask your child's teacher if you need help with a username or password.
Let's start typing! :)
