Molly Minute: Weekly Update
April 26, 2024
Dear Molly Brant Families,
This week was filled to the brim! Students acknowledged Earth Day on Monday, April 22 - the theme was planets vs. plastics and encourages us to eliminate single-use plastics (water bottles, utensils, straws, coffee stir sticks) - one person CAN make a difference! Throughout the week there were also other opportunities such as making art with recycled materials and participating in "Pitch-in Kingston' to pick up garbage around our community. Thank you, Thunder, for caring for our planet.
Grade 8 students had a special trip to Ottawa to the War Museum and we are so proud of them for representing our school with pride! Coming up, grade 7 and 8s will go to Canada's Wonderland, in early June. Big thanks to our staff for organizing and supporting these adventures.
In athletics, our junior basketball teams continue to be very active and are looking forward to their tournaments in early May. Our Thunder Runners went to the Bayridge Road Race today (Friday!) and we are so proud of their efforts - running is hard and they did it! They will do it all again next week at LCVI! GO THUNDER GO!
Our Grade 3 & 6 students will be engaging in EQAO assessments in reading, writing, and mathematics sometime between May 8th and June 12th. We will be working with our in-school EQAO team soon to determine the schedules and dates for MBES. If your student is in grade 3 or 6, look for a letter coming home soon!
Next Friday, May 3rd, will be our Track and Field Fun Day for Grades 3-8: students will participate in a variety of classic events (100m, 200m, long jump) - we are looking forward to a day of fun, physical fitness, teamwork and camaraderie! All students need to dress for outdoor activity for the Fun Day next Friday!
Wellness Week
Monday May 6th to Friday May 10th is Mental Health Awareness Week in LDSB: the theme is Compassion (for self, for others and for the land) and the Molly Brant Thunder will focus on personal wellness, and kindness and compassion for each other and for our local community that week. We will update you with some activities that we have planned!
Have a great weekend,
K. Witley (Principal)
S. Barling, J. Bocking and C. Skinner (Vice-Principals)

School Climate Survey
School Climate Survey - April 22nd to May 3rd
School boards are required to conduct school climate surveys of students, school staff, and families at least once every two years as one way to gather data that supports creating a positive school climate (Education Act, S. 169.1, (2.1)). The 2023-2024 School Climate Survey will be available to all LDSB students in Grade 4 to 12 from April 22 to May 3 to help LDSB understand more about student experiences at our schools & learning centres.

2024-25 Kindergarten Registration Information
Welcome to Kindergarten! This is an exciting time for both you and your student. Kindergarten is a wonderful experience and your student’s next phase on their journey of learning.
We are now accepting new student registrations for this September 2024. If your student is four or five by the end of December, now is the time to register.
Kindergarten offers a wonderful new world of learning and growing. We learn how to read, how to write and we make new friends. Your student will be challenged and encouraged to do their very best. In Kindergarten classrooms, a teacher and an early childhood educator work together as a team. This partnership helps to create a nurturing learning environment; giving every student the opportunity to learn in the way that is best suited to their individual strengths and needs. Our caring team of educators is with them every step of the way!
We look forward to meeting you!
** If you cannot register online, please contact the school**
