Celebrating Student Success: February 2019
Speech Contest Participant: Tia Ward
Ti'a Ward represented Speight on Sunday, January 20 at the Martin Luther King Jr Speech Contest sponsored by the Men's Civic Club of Wilson. She did an excellent job honoring Dr. King and representing the Cougar Nation.
Chick-Fil-A: Food for Thought
Thank You, Chick-fil-A for bringing a healthy lunch to share with some of our 7th Graders. We learned that most of Chick-fil-A's food is healthy until we drown it in sauce. So next time you visit Chick-fil-A, use the sauce in moderation. EAT MORE CHICKEN!

Athletes of the Month
Girls Basketball: THE LADY COUGARS
The lady cougars all deserve to be chosen as Athletes of the Month. They have played well together all season and are the Co-Conference Champs which led them to the division playoffs. They held their own in the play off game fighting all the way to the end. The team only has 8 members, which means they have had to hustle the entire game, every game. The team would like to thank Coach Gear for having faith in them. Speight Middle is so proud of our Lady Cougars!
Boys Basketball: Cristofer Atkinson
Cris Atkinson is this month's male Athlete of the Month. Cris is aggressive on the court and helps pick up the team when they are down. He has been playing basketball since he was 10 years old. He also plays football for Speight and plans to play baseball. When asked which game was his favorite this season, Cris said the last game against Darden because it was a tight game, and he scored 32 points. We are proud of Cris for his efforts on the court and look forward to seeing him on the baseball field.
