Fun week at OLMP
Election time in Alberta
Basketball Season wraps up at OLMP!
The senior girls placed 2nd in the east central league and advanced to consolation finals at zones. They won the Gus Wetter School tournament and placed second in our Royals Winter Warm-Up tournament.
It was a good season for the senior boys winning all their Zone playoff games and getting to represent OLMP and the central zone at provincials. Senior boys finished the year on a positive note winning the 2A consolation trophy at this year's provincials. They went in seeded 2 and had a tough 3 point loss to the former number 1 team in the province.
Thanks to all the players and families that were involved in making this a fun and exciting season!
Don't forget your Lenten Commitments!
The OLMP Furndraiser continues through Lent as we contemplate giving. Spring break is a good time to collect more sales! Help us to raise money for those in need and support mom's on Mother's Day . Funds raised go to Valeda House and St. Francis Xavier Parish.

OLMP Program Highlight
This week we are highlighting the STEAM Program at OLMP. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century! Mr. Wispinski and Mrs. Welke teach STEAM at OLMP to middle school students who create and explore different design challenges. See photos below of students engaging in various design challenges at OLMP this school year.

Sign up for the Move your Mood Program for youth aged 10-12
The program aims to teach students through hands on opportunities how being active, eating
healthy and positive coping tools improves overall Mental & Physical Health.
The research shows that regular physical activity can make us feel better, put us in a better
mood, invigorate our bodies, and bolster our ability to cope with stress and anxiety. Physical
activity is an essential part of the healthy development of youth and supports psychological
well being.
The 8 week session aims to help students explore new ways to move in our community and
gain personal confidence in hopes that they will be motivated, confident and competent to be
ACTIVE FOR LIFE. By participating students are learning how to support their mental health by being exposed to activities and strategies with the added benefit of building friendships with others. This group will be especially useful for students that have mental health disorders (such as anxiety or depression).
Each week will feature different interactive ways to move your body and learn how to lead
healthy lifestyles. Sample activities include; Yoga, Circuits, Tennis, Spin, Games, Sports based on the season, MoveBall, Cooking Clubs & Healthy Snacks. The program also features an
educational series each week on the benefits of Relaxation, Sleep, Creativity and Positive
Relationships.
Program referral sources are AHS Addiction & Mental Health Therapists, Family School Liaison workers in Battle River School Division and Elk Island Catholic School Division (FWW) and Mental Health Capacity Building project facilitators. A detailed schedule will be provided to you upon registration.

Book Recommendation
Book Recommended: 1984
Author: George Orwell
Recommended by: Mr. Kevin Elliott
Book Description: In George Orwell's 1984, protagonist Winston Smith wrestles with oppression in a fictitious country Oceania, a place where one political Party rules and scrutinizes human actions as the ever-watchful Big Brother. Defying a ban on individuality, Winston challenges the dictatorial rule of the government through journaling his revolutionary thoughts and going underground. These criminal deeds bring Winston into the eye of “big brother” who then must reform the nonconformist.
Why it is recommended: This book is a revolutionary prediction of a dystopian future. Considering the this book was published in 1949 it predicted many of the items we now have. The book illustrates a world where everyone is servailed through the use of cameras and microphone and all this information is gathered to scrutinize anyone that would go against the state. I think it suggests to the reader a warning about the dangers of government control and vigilance that our current freedoms require to be protected. I first read this book in high school and it helped me understand dictatorial governments, how they can operate, and why people would support them. This is recommended for a high school readers because there is content that can be disturbing in this book.
