5th Grade News
Fifth grade has been working on a lot of exciting things this year. In math, the students have spent a lot of time on fractions and decimals. They have become experts at adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, decimals, and whole numbers. For science, the students have learned about populations, ecosystems, matter, and energy, and now are studying Earth's structure and examining rocks and minerals. In social studies, the classes have been exploring America's history from Native Americans up to the Civil War. In writing, we have worked on the traits of Ideas, Organization, and Word Choice, and now students are focusing on using good "Sentence Fluency" in their writing. Fifth graders are learning a lot, and having fun too.
6th grade student council
6th grade student council members have done a great job helping their school and the community. 6th graders can become student council members by attending meetings and participating in service projects throughout the year. So far, we have helped with the homecoming parade, played with younger students to teach sportsmanship and conflict resolution, coordinated a be kind campaign, designed and put up a monthly bulletin board near the office, rang bells for the Salvation Army, and coordinated a food drive that brought in 741 pounds of food for the Deerfield Food Pantry!

We helped the Dane County Salvation Army raise over $500,000 this year!
