Try Peas...
This month's LifeSPAN programming features peas! Join in the fun at home by trying Parmesan Peas, Peas and Rice, or Quick & Healthy Black-eyed Peas from Michigan Harvest of the Month™ and MyPlate™ These are easy and delicious recipes that the whole family can enjoy making and eating together! Also, click on the Top 10 Ways to Enjoy Peas and try some of the suggestions. My own kids love to eat frozen peas and even claim that they taste like ice cream!
Encourage your child to try fruits and vegetables of all different colors!
Are cold winter days making your family stir crazy?
Try these fresh activities to stay active inside or outside all winter long.
Upcoming February Lantern Treks
OUTHouse Consortium has planned two February Lantern Treks
- February 12: Ashmun Creek (behind Buffalo Wild Wings), 6:30-8:30
- February 19: McNearny Ski Trail, 6:30-8:30
Modified Musical Chairs
Set up stations using objects like blocks or small towels. Play music, and when the music stops everyone should be standing near one of the objects. Anyone not standing near an object is out of the game. Have other activity stations set up, such as a yoga mat to do sit-ups or push-ups until a new game begins.
Activity Sticks
Write activities (i.e. squats, arm circles, skipping, etc.) on craft stick or slips of paper. Take turns drawing sticks throughout the day, and have all family members participate in the activity.
Active Story Time
Select a book with a word that is repeated often. Every time that word comes up in the story, everyone does a jumping jack or hops on one foot. Change up the story and movements.
