Black History Month Activities π
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Take a look at how some of our students and teachers recognized these achievements.
Mrs. Gravuer
7th graders each selected a different influential African American throughout history and then created a one-pager to highlight their achievements and contributions. These are just a few of them that were completed.
Mrs. McHugh
Mrs. McHughβs 7th grade ELA classes highlighted Amanda Gorman, a twenty-five year old African American poet who became the youngest inaugural poet in American history. Amanda was chosen to recite her poem, βThe Hill We Climb β in 2021 at the age of twenty-two for the inauguration of President Joe Biden and gained instant recognition and fame.
Ms. Indelicato
Every year, the president endorses a specific theme for Black History Month. The 2024 theme is African Americans and the Arts. Mrs. Indelicato and Mr. Seipβs ELA classes were engaged in researching a notable African American. They used the information to create a pennant, a piece of the banner displayed outside their classroom.
