Grade Level Tips and Tricks
Early Start
We are SUPER excited that we are nearing the end of a very successful school year. We are thrilled that students have learned so much and we believe that they are ready for kindergarten. We appreciate your partnership as we realize that we could not have done it without you…Thank You!
During the Fourth Nine Weeks, students will continue to work on being a “SUPER” friend by…
-Continuing to implement classroom routines and procedures
-Remembering to Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Smart (Do your best.)
-Using problem solving strategies to resolve conflict
-Engaging in cooperative play
-Following directions the first time that they are given
-Completing tasks successfully independently
During the month of May, we will work on the following objectives…
We will continue discussing the changes that occur in Spring. Students will gain mastery of name writing, letter and number recognition. During this final nine weeks we will review digraphs. We will also begin labeling and narrating our writings. Please continue to have nightly reading time with your child. Spend some “fun” time (together) looking at pictures and discussing the stories. Talk about the events in the story. What happened First, Next and Last…
During the month of June…
Early Start teachers will host a “Moving On” social for parents. Students will dance and sing songs demonstrating what they have learned throughout the school year. This day is always such a rewarding experience for students, teachers and parents. We will provide more details as a date is confirmed.
We are sooo excited about the learning opportunities and activities that we have planned. We appreciate your continued partnership and support as we conclude the school year.
Kindergarten
We are so excited to be entering the 4th nine weeks with our amazing students! Each student has been working very hard this 2023-2024 school year.
Please continue to encourage your students to listen and follow directions at all times.
Encourage them to do their best as well as practice and review with you at home or while riding
in the car. We are quickly approaching the end of the year and we could not have done it without
all of your support.
Thank you again from Mrs. K. Faulk, Mrs. J. Roundtree, Ms. F. Lawrence, Ms. R. Grant, Ms. E.
Kilburn, Mrs. C. Gordon, Mrs. T. Blow and the tremendous support and help of our Para, Ms. S.
Lahmann and Mrs. R. Wroten.
- Please make sure your students get plenty of rest. Kindergarten students do not take naps.
- Water bottles and a snack are needed everyday.
- Check your student’s Communication folder daily.
1st-2nd Grade
Please check take home folders daily. With so many upcoming events, students may be bringing home papers on days other than Friday!
Ask your child about their classroom rules and procedures for review. With testing season approaching, we need to support our 3rd-5th grades by being quiet and respectful during their testing time.
Read with your child nightly--students who read for 20 minutes a day will grow as readers!
We thank you for all of your help and support this year. We truly could not have done it without you. This year has been challenging one and we are going into the final nine weeks excited to finish strong!
3rd Grade
Hello third grade students and families! It is so hard to believe that SOL time is right around the corner. We are wrapping things up in math this nine weeks with geometry and money. We will be reviewing all reading skills to prepare for the upcoming SOL. In writing, we will be completing opinion writings, including a friendly letter. In science, students will be studying soil, natural disasters, and conservation. Social studies will continue with ancient civilizations. To review for the reading and math SOLs, please have your child use the VDOE website, IXL, iReady, and Prodigy.
4th Grade
We hope this message finds you well and ready for the exciting journey ahead as we head into the 4th nine weeks of the school year. Please remember to check Thursday folders for information and grades, check class dojo and emails for weekly updates and events. Please remember to refresh and replenish any notebooks or supplies that your child may need.
With this new quarter comes a range of opportunities for growth, learning, and, of course, some important SOL assessments. As we move forward, here are some key points to keep in mind to help your child prepare for the upcoming challenges:
Consistent Homework and Study Habits: Encourage your child to maintain a consistent routine for homework and studying. Consistency builds discipline and helps reinforce learning.
Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Ensure your child is getting plenty of rest, eating nutritious meals, and staying physically active. A healthy lifestyle contributes to improved focus and overall well-being, which are essential during testing season.
Encouragement and Support: Offer words of encouragement and support to your child. Let them know that you believe in their abilities and that you are there to help them through any challenges they may face.
Practice, Practice, Practice: Utilize practice materials and resources to help your child become familiar with the format and content of the upcoming tests. Practice can help reduce anxiety and build confidence.
Open Communication: Stay in touch with your child's teacher(s) to stay informed about their progress and any areas where they may need additional support. Open communication between home and school is key to student success.
Remember, while testing is important, it's just one part of your child's overall educational journey. Encourage them to do their best, but also remind them that their worth is not determined by a test score. We are here to support your child every step of the way, and we are confident that with your partnership, they will shine brightly during the 4th nine weeks and beyond.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to your child's education.
