Lions Park Paw Prints
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
Spring is a time that is filled with special activities at Lions Park and today was certainly no exception! We kicked off the day with a performance from the Lincoln Jazz Band and Show Choir. We love these opportunities to watch our former students shine and to encourage our current students to pursue music in the future. The Village of Mount Prospect Arbor Day ceremony was exciting for our students and staff, and we love our new Exclamation London Planetree. Our second grade students proudly wore their tree crowns. Third graders entertained us with some funny jokes. Fourth grade added to the festivities with shape poems inspired by various trees. The fifth grade all wrote poems about trees and a few read them aloud. There ceremony ended with Mrs. Koehlinger leading our school in a beautiful song. Thanks to Mayor Hoeffert and Dave Hull, Superintendent of Forestry, for making it a memorable event.
The PTO Parent Social is May 2nd at Hacienda El Sombrero. May 7th is our PTO McTeacher's Night. Many Lions Park staff will be working at the McDonald's on Rand Road from 4:30-6:30 p.m., so please come by to see us. May 9th is our Fine Arts Night. The Book Fair will be open from 5-7 p.m. All students will have artwork on display in our hallways from 5:30-7 p.m. Our third, fourth and fifth grade choruses will perform at 7 p.m. in the gym. Flyers for these events are also below.
In addition to continued learning and special events, we will be doing our spring benchmarking testing starting next week. All students will take the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test in reading and math April 30th-May 2nd. Students will also take another computerized math test and a reading fluency test in the coming weeks. We look forward to celebrating the progress students have made this year!
Student safety is always on our minds at Lions Park. One area where I believe we can do better as a school community is our drop off and pick up times. I have been informed of a few near misses in recent weeks, any one of which could have resulted in serious injury to a student. As the weather gets nicer, please be aware when driving that there are more kids walking and biking to school. Please drive slowly and avoid three point turns on Council Trail.
Children can sometimes make poor decision about when or where to cross a street, so please be very mindful when you are driving at arrival and dismissal, even in the blocks further from the school. If your child walks or bikes to school, please review safety guidelines with them. Students are advised to wear a helmet, and they should walk their bike until they have crossed the streets with crossing guards near the school because these are very congested areas. Following these guidelines helps to keep our children safe. Students should avoid looking down at phones as they walk so that they are aware of their surroundings.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly

Parent Input for 2024-2025 School Year
It is hard to believe the end of the school year is coming. As our staff continues the important work of this school year, we are also preparing for the 2024-2025 school year. One important upcoming task will be sectioning students into classes for the new year.
Sections are created according the the following criteria:
Strengths and areas of need are considered for each child.
Some students are clustered by these strengths and/or areas of need to enable push in or pull out support.
Social Emotional Needs are noted and an attempt is made to balance the number of students needing support in these areas among the classrooms.
We try to balance the number of boys and girls in each class.
We welcome your input into this process by inviting you fill out this form. Please do not feel obligated to share input. The teachers have wonderful insight into the needs of their students, and are a critical part of this process. If you choose to share your thoughts, please include information about your child's learning style and the type of learning environment you feel will be the best match for your child's style. You may also include students you feel are or are not an asset to your child's learning environment. If there is a particular child you do not want your child to be sectioned with next year, it is important to submit a form stating this. We do not automatically separate students who have had conflicts. We do not guarantee that we can honor every request, but we seriously consider all input that is provided. Because of the complexity of the process, we do not accept requests for particular teachers, and requests for a particular teacher will not be honored.
While classroom teachers and specialists are involved in this process, it is important that you submit any input you have via this form, so that I am aware in case changes need to be made over the summer when the teachers are not working. Furthermore, pertinent information will be shared with teachers, but the specific form responses will be read only by me and Mrs. Grzybek, our assistant principal.
Please complete and submit this form no later than May 8th, if you wish to provide input. I assure you that our staff takes this task very seriously and puts a great deal of time and thought into creating the most balanced sections for the following year. We appreciate your support as we make our plans.
