CB West Spotlight

Congratulations to the September District Boomerang Winner!
Nickolay (Kola) Burke, CB West Junior, was nominated by teacher Anna Davitt and was named the District Winner for the month of September for the CB Cares Boomerang Award. The asset for September was Positive Family Communication. Ms. Davitt writes that Kola and his mother have a very positive relationship, one that is built on honest communication with each other. Kola not only seeks the advice of his family members, but also acts upon their guidance. He looks to his mother and his grandfather as inspirational people that lead his life in a positive direction. Kola works hard in all facets of his life. He is continually teaching himself appropriate social skills, coping strategies and behavioral techniques to help him get through his day. Kola makes choices based on positive reinforcement from his family members and close community. Kola is constantly processing the behaviors, actions and comments of others in order to understand perspective. With this he typically will bounce scenarios and ideas off of his mother so that she can help him to interpret other people’s behaviors. Through Mrs. Burke’s unyielding support, Kola is growing into a young man who self-advocates to his teachers both via email and in person.
Congrats, Kola! CB West is Proud!
For the past two school years, CB West leads the district with the most District Boomerang winners. We are off to a good start this year! Please watch the CB West Webpage (under “News”) for more information about each month’s asset.
