A Message from Mrs. Smith
Howdy, Hornet Families!
Happy Go Texan Day! We have had a wonderful week at the Hive! Our most exciting moment was when our AMAZING ARD Facilitator, Myla Fales, was selected as Katy ISD's ARD Facilitator of the Year. We are very proud that she received this well-deserved recognition, and we are so happy to have such a talented, dedicated, and excellent professional serving at the Hive!
Have a great weekend, Hornets!

Lunch Visitors
PLEASE READ PRIOR TO SIGNING UP:
- IF YOU SIGN UP FOR A SPOT BUT ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND, PLEASE REMOVE YOUR SIGN-UP TO ALLOW FOR ANOTHER VISITOR TO TAKE YOUR SPOT.
- To ensure the cafeteria is not overcrowded, we will be limiting lunch visitors to 5 per day per grade level (2 for PreK). It will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- On Fridays when the newsletter comes out, there will be a sign-up link for the following week for you to sign-up. There can only be one parent per student per day, so please leave the quantity at “1” when you sign up (we cannot remove it using this app). Please be considerate of other families and limit your sign-ups to only one day a week (preferably one day each month) so that all families have the opportunity to enjoy lunch visits with their students.
- Lunch visitors are ONLY parents/step-parents/guardians/grandparents and non school-aged siblings. If someone other than a parent or guardian, i.e. stepparent or grandparent) is to have lunch with your child, the Parent Permission for Elementary Lunch Room Visitors must be completed prior to their attending. This form can be obtained from the front office or by requesting one from your child's teacher.
- Visitors should remain in the cafeteria during their child's lunch period.
- Visitors are to sit with their child at the visitor's table.
- Visitors may bring food for their children only.
- Visitors should not have any interactions with students other than their own children.
- Due to privacy issues, there are to be no photographs or video recordings made while in the cafeteria.
- Reminder, there can only be one visitor sign-up per child per day. Thank you!

IMPORTANT SCHOOL INFORMATION
Attendance Matters
Attendance is key for student success. Every time your student is absent, he/she loses learning opportunities. One of our goals this year is to increase attendance and reduce tardies. Statistics show that students that show to school everyday have a greater chance of graduating high school and attend college. Please join us in our incentive program "Race to School" and help your student win the school reward and PBIS points for their house.

Arrival/Dismissal
Students are tardy if they arrive after 7:50am. If you arrive after 7:50am, you will be required to walk your child into the school and check them in using the iPad in the front office. Students are counted as a late pick-up after 3:25pm. Car rider tags will stop being recorded in the line at 3:25pm. If you are not in the line by 3:25pm, you will be required to come into the building to pick up your child and check them out using the iPad in the front office. Students arriving to school with time to spare have the luxury of settling in, greeting their teachers and classmates, completing morning work, and focusing their minds on the lessons to come. Students arriving late miss out on this natural transition period, and chronic tardiness may cause students to struggle with academic focus and relationships with peers. Showing up on time to school every day can help students develop the habit of being punctual, illustrates to them your commitment to their learning and friendships, and helps reduce classroom interruptions and distractions for all students.
During dismissal, please keep the car rider line on Franz Rd. Please do not turn in from Katy Ft. Bend or Katy Hockley Cut Off if the line extends past those streets and please do not cut the line at any point. When you cut the line, it throws off the order in which we bring the kids out, further delaying the dismissal process. During arrival, do not use the neighborhood streets as car rider drop offs. This creates an unsafe situation for our walkers. We have observed many parents parking on Myrna Ln. and getting down to walk their kids. Again, there is too much traffic on Myrna Ln which is creating a safety concern for our walkers. If you want to park, please park at the church and walk your child, otherwise, use the car rider line. When exiting the school either at arrival or dismissal, please turn right only on to Franz Rd. Waiting to make that left turn slows down the flow of traffic exiting the school which delays the arrival and dismissal process. Thank you so much for following these guidelines. They are in place to keep our students safe and to speed up the arrival and dismissal process.
Attendance Information
School starts at 7:50am
If you are here after that time, you must park and come inside to fill out the google doc before your student may come inside.
If you arrive after 9:15am for a reason that is unexcused, the student will receive an absence for the day, and you will receive the automated phone call from the district in the afternoon at 4:15pm.
Please send in any excuse notes within 5 days of the absence.

Hutsell Clinic Notes
A few reminders for parents:
If your child has a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, they will have to stay home for 24 hours. Once they are free of symptoms without the use of any medication, then they can return to campus. Please call in your child’s absences when they will not be at school at 281-237-6500.
Parents, please follow the guideline information for COVID-19. Parents must ensure they do not send their child to school if they:
- Are awaiting a COVID-19 test result.
- Are test-confirmed with COVID-19.
A student who tests positive for COVID-19 will be excluded from school for 5 days.
We don’t keep many clothes in the clinic, so if your child spills or has an accident we will have to call you to bring some clothes to school. Please pack extra clothes in your child’s backpack to help.
Since we are returning to school, please start checking your students head for head lice.
Please contact the clinic with regards to your children taking medication during the school day, so we can discuss the proper forms to be filled out.
If you have any questions, please call 281-237-6525.
