august recap
In August we wrapped up our Water Wednesdays, the children love this time to splash and play in the water! We will continue to go out side twice a day, every day, weather permitting... even as it gets cooler. Feel free to leave an extra sweatshirt in your child's basket just in case it is cooler in the mornings.
We were so happy to see all the families at our family picnic! What a special time to connect and chat with the parents and children. We hope everyone had a great time!
In August our focus was bugs and fruit! We enjoyed a few different ways to paint and new sensory items.
We welcomed Ian and Marcus into our room from the Caterpillar room and said see you later to Adele and Barrett as they move up to the Ladybug room!

biting
Biting can be scary, frustrating and stressful for children, parents and teachers. It is also not something to blame on children, parents or teachers. Children bite for a variety of reasons: speech delays, simple sensory exploration, teething, panic, crowding, seeking to be noticed or intense desire for a toy. At this age, children are not mature enough to realize their biting will hurt another person, so the "cause-effect" relationship is not internalized. It is often a phase for young children until they are able to get the skills needed for more appropriate ways to interact.
Here's what we do when another child bites: Parents will be informed that their child has bitten, an ouch report will be filled out for the child who was bitten, however no names will be released. The teachers will separate the 2 children involved and the focus is on the child who was bitten. We tell the child who bit that teeth are not for biting, and they are for eating when they are separated.

teacher update
In August there were a few changes to our classroom teachers. Kathy has joined us as a lead teachers, she is generally here from 7am-1pm 4 days a week. Kathy is taking online classes through UW-Superior to finish her degree in Social Work. Zoe is still a lead teacher, but only working 2 and a half days a week. Kelli is here as an assistant working 4 days a week, feel free to come to any of us with questions or concerns! You will also see a few other assistant teachers in and out of the room throughout the week to fill in the hours.
