The Weekly Update #31
March 20, 2024
Note from Mrs. Haworth
Good afternoon,
I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break week! We are excited to be getting into the last push of the year. April 8th is the (almost) total eclipse. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to be able to experience a natural phenomena in real life. We are planning to make a whole day of it. Please see the flyer and information below for more details!
Have a great evening,
Tara Haworth
Principal
Tays Junior High
Additional Eclipse Day Information:
Snacks: Our wonderful PTSA will be providing each student with a Solar Snack (Capri Sun and Oreos)

Counselor's Corner
There is one last time to look over next year’s courses in Schoolinks. The course verification window is March 18-26th. After this there will be no changes.
If you have ANY changes or questions to consolidate and simplify the process you can use one of the Google forms about course selection below or message/comment in Schoolinks –
6th Grade to 7th Grade Course Selection Questions/Changes Form – Mrs. Lopez
7th Grade to 8th Grade Course Selection Questions/Changes Form – Mrs. Alexander
8th Grade to 9th Grade Course Selection Questions/Changes Form – Mrs. Bartee
**IMPORTANT: Please make sure you are paying attention to your child’s Academic Plan and clicking on the View Course Plan button to verify which courses they have chosen for the upcoming school year. The other sections regarding goals, etc. are not pertinent. Should you wish to make any changes in those sections, your child may do this by accessing their SchooLinks account. This is not necessary on our end for the course verification process.
Current 8th graders:
Only 9th grade courses are submitted currently, please disregard any error messages. Due to time constraints, counselors did not look over 10th-12th grade as closely as 9th grade. A high school counselor will sit with every student every year to continue to plan with your student.
Check that there are a total of 7 credits and 3 desired alternates for 9th grade. Some changes will be made if courses were cut from the high school or if the course sequence was not permitted by the high school.
Social studies - even though it is only required for them to take three years of social studies, some colleges and universities prefer/require them to have taken a social studies’ course all four years.
If your child takes Off-Campus PE this is no longer a GPA exempt course and one year will count towards their GPA.

When and How to Wash Your Hands
https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/when-how-handwashing.html
How Germs Spread
Washing hands can keep you healthy and prevent the spread of respiratory and diarrheal infections. Germs can spread from person to person or from surfaces to people when you:
- Touch your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- Prepare or eat food and drinks with unwashed hands
- Touch surfaces or objects that have germs on them
- Blow your nose, cough, or sneeze into hands and then touch other people’s hands or common objects
