Keep Healthy, Stay Active!
Physical activity promotes brain health, healthy bone and muscle growth, and helps to maintain a healthy weight.
The daily physical activity recommendation for children depends on their age. For children ages 3-5, they need to be physically active throughout the day. The daily recommendation for physical activity for children 6 years and older is at least 60 minutes a day. The 60 minutes don’t need to happen all at once and can be broken down into shorter time frames, like 10 minute sessions.
Check out these ideas to help your child to be physically active. If your child is not active, you can use these ideas to slowly start to build up to becoming more active.
Lines from the Library
First grade students have been visiting the Dike-Newell School Library this week for some hands-on science learning! They learned that science is a huge field of study that deals with the search for knowledge about the universe and all that is in it. People who work in science are called scientists. Various types of science were discussed and students learned how to find science books of interest using Epic. The Patten Free Library also offers many great resources, such as binoculars and a telescope that can be checked out, as well as My Own Backyard (MOBY) backpacks and book bags for youth exploration of local natural history. Science learning concluded with a chance to use the Dike-Newell School Library's science viewers, rock kits, and science books.

A Letter from Mr. Carter
It’s time for the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge™! As a Kids Heart Challenge Heart Hero, your child will raise funds for the health of all hearts. They’ll also get moving with fun activities in PE, learn about keeping their hearts and brains healthy and feel great for helping others. Join today! Not only will you be helping fight heart disease and stroke (the No. 1 and No. 2 killers worldwide), but participants can earn fun thank-you gifts. The Kids Heart Challenge instructions can be found on the flyer provided. All fundraising will need to be completed before the end of March. Thank you for your consideration.
SIGN UP: Download our Kids Heart Challenge app or visit heart.org/KHC to register. Help your child choose a daily health challenge: BE ACTIVE or BE KIND. Set a fundraising goal with your child and send emails to invite friends and family to support it.
TIP: If you receive checks, use the app to scan them and have the amount immediately added to your child’s total.
Sincerely,
Mr. Carter
