Volume 2, Issue 6 - September 21, 2018
Dear Families,
Our students are at that age where they want to spend most of their time in their iPads and put a lot of pressure on parents to get them their own cellphone. While we value technology and its use as a learning tool/entertainment, we also worry about the dangers to which the students are exposed online.
Because we want you to be aware of these dangers and equip you as parents to protect your students, PTSA has invited Detective Tracy Perkins, from the Boone County Sheriff Department Cybercrime Taskforce, as the guest speaker in our next PTSA meeting on October 2nd at 6:00 pm.
Detective Perkins will provide a basic overview of trends of what kids are doing online, and things that parents can do to be proactive. Her presentation will last about 20 min and she will give the opportunity to families to ask questions.
Please, do not miss this important opportunity to learn about what our students are doing online and how to better protect them!

Picture Retake Day- Last Chance!
Interstate Studios will return to Gentry on September 27th from 8-10:15 am to retake photos for those students who would like to have their photos retaken. If your student is having their photo retaken, they will simply need to bring their original photo packet and uncut photos to this sitting.
On this same day, we will also be taking photos of those students who missed having their initial photo taken at our Schedule Pick Up Night. Please be sure that your student has an order form (located in the main office) and money with them to give to the photographer that day. If you have any further questions, please contact Inter-State Studios at 573-449-3090.

6th Grade Science Camp
Our 6th graders are getting very excited about their approaching science camp field trip! We will once again be taking our sixth grade students to Camp Hickory Hill located at 5951 W. Hatton Chapel Road in Columbia. The camp is located about 5 miles north of the Columbia Mall. During the day students will be busy attending various learning stations that will introduce them to things such as hiking, fishing, historical weaponry, outdoor cooking and T-shirt tie dyeing, to name a few.
6th grade Science Camp Dates:
October 4th-5th (Team 6B)
October 8th-9th (Team 6A)
October 11th-12th (Team 6C)
Info from the Nurse:
If you have a 6th grade student attending any of the Science Camp Sessions, PLEASE CAREFULLY READ through the following important information:
- The CPS prescription AND over the counter medication policy
- Information regarding any special health care procedures that will need to be performed by the School Nurse while your students is attending Science Camp.
Any prescription medication that you are wanting administered to your student by the School Nurse during Science Camp, MUST have a Science Camp Non-Injectable Medication Form completed by the parent PRIOR to the camp date your child will be attending.
Medication forms and the medications in the properly labeled bottles, along with the completed Science Camp Medication Administration Form, need to be delivered to the Nurse's office no later than the end of the school day on 10.1.2018
The policy for the Science Camp medication administration is the same as the CPS policy for medications that are administered while attending school. Please see the back of the attached Science Camp Medication Administration record form for guidelines/policy.
All prescription medication will be administered by the School Nurse while attending Science Camp.
Students can carry one dose of over the counter medication (ex. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Claritin, etc.) as long as it is in the original and properly labeled medication bottle. Please, label the bottle with your student's name.
Please share with your students that they are NOT PERMITTED TO SHARE ANY MEDICATION.
If your student requires any over the counter medication taht you are wanting the Nurse to administer, the Nurse will need a Dr.'s order to do so. You will also need to complete a Science Camp Medication Administration Form.
If your student requires any special health care procedure while attending camp, please contact the School Nurse to make arrangements. We will need to ensure that there is a health plan on file and thoroughly review any special equipment that is needed. All equipment will need to be delivered to the Nurse no later than 10.1.2018.
No Body To Murder – by Edith Weiss
Please join us for our fall performance: No Body to Murder. Our theatre department will be performing on Thursday, October 11 and Friday, October 12 at 7:00 pm each night in our very own GMS cafetorium. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 per person. Please see a brief overview of the storyline below. Hope to see you there!
Bad news threatens the guests of the Come On Inn of Nova Scotia – severe thunderstorms and an escaped convict! By the end of the day, gung-ho aerobics instructor Billie Body is mysteriously murdered during a power outage. Was it the cook’s lemonade that poisoned her, or did someone else have a hand in Body’s death? Who would have the audacity to commit murder under so many noses? Inspector Black, on the scene in search of the escaped convict, has his job cut out for him. As the winds howl, suspicions range from Garth the gardener (who weeds with an axe) to an inept doctor on holiday from malpractice suits to a hairdresser who constantly changes her appearance. Everyone has a hidden motive to want Billie Body dead. After all, she does have abs “to die for!”
