Golden Paw Awards
This week’s Golden Paw Staff awards go to:
Caroline Rondeau, Special Education Teacher and Stephanie Triphan, Fourth Grade Teacher
"“Caroline is a wonderful teacher who works so hard everyday to make sure the students she works get whatever they need to meet their goals. She is incredible flexible in meeting students needs. She is also always willing to support classroom teachers across the students with idea for how to support their kids. Thank you for all that you do for the Walker Family!”
“Ms. Triphan is being nominated for the Gold Paw Award for what she does for her students every day. She makes sure that she plans activities for her students to keep them engaged and excited about their learning. She is always willing to ask questions and support her fellow teachers on campus. Walker is fortunate to have a teacher like Ms. Triphan on campus. Keep up the amazing work!”
Parent Pickup and Drop Off Reminders
As we prepare for the last quarter of the school year, we wanted to send out reminders regarding parent pick up and drop off procedures to ensure an efficient and safe process.
First off, we ask that families please follow all traffic laws when driving or parking around the campus. Please do not speed through the parking lot, drive the wrong direction along Roller Coaster Rd, park in unmarked parking areas in the parking lot, or cut off other drivers in the car line. Please be sure to park in a safe manner if you park along Roller Coaster Rd and do not let students cross into traffic unattended.
We ask families to enter the parking lot only on the east of the campus and exit only the northwest end. Please do not use the exit adjacent to the drop off and pick up area during the pick up and drop off times.
As always, we encourage families to utilize the car line for student drop and pick up. The car line moves very quickly in the morning and rarely is there a substantial line once students are allowed to enter the campus . We have worked very hard to speed up the process for picking up students in the afternoon and if you arrive at Walker by 2:00 pm, the wait time is less than 15 minutes.
Finally, please be respectful of other drivers. We are all members of the Walker family so please have patience with other drivers.
We appreciate your support in helping to make student drop off and pick and efficient and safe process.

State Testing Information
Arizona students in grades 3-5 will participate in a round of computer-based state tests that measure students' knowledge of math, reading, writing, oral fluency and science.
The Arizona Department of Education has hired Pearson to host the platform for computer-based testing. The math, reading, writing and oral fluency tests are called Arizona's Academic Standards Achievement (AASA) tests. The science test, measured in Grades 5, 8 and 11, is called Arizona's Science Assessment (AzSCI). Information about both tests can be found on the Arizona Department of Education's website at: https://www.azed.gov/assessment/aasa and https://www.azed.gov/assessment/sci.

WHY: The statewide tests are part of a larger state and local assessment system. Locally selected and administered tests measure a student’s progress throughout the year. The statewide assessments, which set high expectations for students, are summative assessments that measure and evaluate student learning at the end of the school year. Please know that the third grade assessment is a high-stakes measure that determines whether students move on to fourth grade. This is based on a student’s Move on When Reading score.
SAMPLE TEST: There are sample tests and tutorials for AASA and AzSCI posted on ADE's website: https://home.testnav.com
Sample tests for each assessment can be accessed at home using the instructions below:
• For AASA or AzSCI, select "Arizona" then scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Mic Check & Sample Tests"
• For AASA, sample tests are available for each grade level in Math and ELA, including for the Grade 3 Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) test unit.
• For AzSCI, sample tests are available for grades 5, 8, and 11.
All schools and students are required by state and federal law to participate in statewide testing. Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. Trimble.Registration for 2024-2025 School Year

Parent Square
Next school year the district will be transitioning to the Parent Square program as a communication communication tool for all schools. The program functions in the same way as ClassDOJO and will allow for parents to communicate directly with their child's teacher and other school staff. It also allows for information to be sent to parents via email as well. In addition, the program allows the school to send out mass communications over the app and through phone calls when necessary. While we are still utilizing the ClassDOJO app for the remainder of this school year, the district and school have begun to utilize the program to communicate information out. We are encouraging families to download the app so that you can become comfortable with the program before next year and so you can set your communication preferences.
Parents were sent information from the district on the program in October which included a link to join the program. If you have lost the link or did not receive the email, the Parent Square app can be downloaded and/or accessed at:

Important Reminders
- Please do not exit and leave your car if you are using the car line to drop off or pick up your child.
- Please be sure that you communicate how your child will be going home each day. Please try to keep it as consistent as possible. We also ask that you do not change how a student will be getting home after 1:00pm. This will ensure that it can communicated in time to the classroom teacher.
- If you are picking your child up after school we ask that you have a sign in your car or that you carry a sign with your child's name (first name and last initial), grade, and teacher.
- A reminder that the shoulder along Roller Coaster is not Walker Elementary School property and it is illegal to park in the bike lanes and unsafe to park there. Please utilize the parking spaces within the Walker Elementary School parking lot if you would like to meet your child at the West Gate for dismissal.
