Principal's Message
At Terra Linda this year, one of the skills our staff has been teaching students is ways to calm our minds and bodies and be ready to learn. When we are anxious or upset, we cannot learn. Here is an article with some ideas you can try at home: https://www.nytimes.com/guides/well/mindfulness-for-children I know with my own children, they can become upset and need skills to calm themselves down. We’ve been trying some of these ideas in my own family!
Thank you for sending in non-perishable food items this week. We really appreciate your generosity! All donations will be given to our own Terra Linda families who requested support over Thanksgiving Break.
Finally, I hope you have an enjoyable Thanksgiving with your family and friends. This time of year can get really busy, so I hope you can spend time as a family and enjoy each others’ company. Even just reading a book together or playing a game as a family is quality time together!
Kind Regards,
Christy

READ! READ! READ!
Over the 5-day Thanksgiving Break, please do your best to make sure students read at least 30 minutes every day. You might even sit next to them and read a book of your own! Daily reading will help students maintain the skills they’ve been learning this fall. Consider taking a trip to the Cedar Mill Library, too! The library has engaging books at every reading level that can help keep your student reading over the break. Happy reading!
Beaverton School District Inclement Weather Information
When the weather gets snowy or icy, school schedules may be affected. The District generally posts the announcement of delayed school opening or school closure by 5:15 a.m. All Portland Metro area media outlets announce the information on TV newscasts and online.
The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely, the ability for students and parents to get to school safely, and the ability of employees to get to work safely and on time. The decision that is made will be for the entire District. As always, parents may choose to make different decisions based on their particular location.
The District will notify parents via SchoolMessenger with a Non-School Hours Emergency message. Please manage your communication preferences in SchoolMessenger InfoCenter here: https://go.schoolmessenger.com/#/home

Beaverton School District Multiyear Finance Plan
The District is in the process of updating the 2016-2020 Multiyear Finance Plan. The Multiyear Finance Plan is a three to five year plan determining the District’s investments. The District’s Multiyear Finance Plan includes targeted investments aligned to the Strategic Plan and Pillars of Learning. The plan also includes evaluations to monitor and track progress to determine if those investments are paying off. The Multiyear Finance Plan encompasses the annual budget process.
The Plan will be updated each year with consideration of revenue, student enrollment and program effectiveness. It will also include significant input from a broad base of stakeholders.
Superintendent Grotting and the Budget Committee will hold Multiyear Finance Plan Listening & Learning Session on Monday, November 27, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at Highland Park Middle School, 7000 SW Wilson Ave. Beaverton, OR 97008, in the library.
