Quarter 3 Progress Reports March 4th-8th
What are Progress Reports and how can I use it to support my student?
These mid-semester reports provide students with their current grade in all of their classes and can identify specific areas where they may need to focus more attention or need more support. Progress reports play an essential role in helping students monitor their academic progress, set goals, stay motivated, and engage in meaningful self-reflection and communication with teachers, parents, and learning coaches.
Does your student need more academic support?
For students that need more support, please encourage them to attend our Extending Learning Time hosted by the CVHS teachers Mon-Thurs. 3:30-4:30 PM in Zoom. If that time is not convenient, Pear Deck Tutoring is available(free) to our students and offers 1-1 tutoring, 24 hours a day. Students can access Pear Deck Tutoring in their Clever account.
January-February CVHS Live! Class Highlights
English with Ms. Tompkins
Spanish with Profesora Santana
Mathematics with Mr. Matthews
Visual Arts with Ms. Boyd
Visual Arts 1 students explored colors, shades, and tints using the color wheel. They discovered how advertisers use specific colors to attract customers and how colors represent personalities. Students used their knowledge and creativity to make their version of a color wheel that represented the 12 primary colors on the wheel. Advanced Visual Arts students began studying Hyperrealism in art. Through intense exploration and observation, students analyzed hyperrealistic art from various artists. They discovered that the best details in hyperrealism in art are found through the use of value, high and low contrast, and implied lines. As students practiced their art, they engaged in the process of self-reflection and the importance of making revisions.

History with Mr. L
In Mr. L's World History class, students analyzed the impacts and reactions to African colonization during the Age of Imperialism. Meanwhile, in U.S. History, students engaged in critical thinking by selecting a stance on a historical issue, crafting a clear thesis statement, and constructing persuasive essays supported by historical evidence. In their Economics class, students took a hands-on approach by planning and designing a 24-acre zoo. They applied economic concepts by analyzing the opportunity costs of including one animal versus another, using decision-making grids. This zoo project enhanced their understanding of economics and equipped them with valuable skills and knowledge needed to rebuild the economy during the Zombie Apocalypse simulation.
Science with Ms. Franck
CTE & Personal Finance with Ms. Balliet

CVHS Presents the Blackout Poetry Slam March 15th
SIGN UP TODAY!
Get ready for an immersive artistic experience at our first-ever Blackout Poetry Slam on March 15th at 12:30 PM. If you have a passion for artistic expression, aren't afraid of the dark, and love glowsticks, this event is tailor-made for you.
What's a Blackout Poetry Slam? A Blackout Poetry Slam is an innovative event where participants transform existing texts into poetic masterpieces. It's a process of selectively "blacking out" words from a given text, leaving only the chosen words visible, creating a unique and visually striking poem. This form of artistic expression allows individuals to find their voice within the existing words on a page, turning it into something entirely new and personal.
Event Highlights:
- Create Your Own Blackout Poem: We'll provide the time and materials for you to craft your unique Blackout Poem. Select words, create patterns, and express yourself through this captivating artistic process.
Optional Stage Spotlight: Share your blackout poems or any other artistic expression on stage in front of your peers! Our curators, Ms. Tompkins, Ms. Boyd, or Mr. L, may even lend a hand in presenting your creation. It's an opportunity to showcase your creativity and connect with others who appreciate the power of words.
Art Gallery: Immerse yourself in an art gallery featuring student art – portals into infinite realities await you! Explore the diverse expressions of your peers and find inspiration in the boundless creativity within our school community.
Let's turn the lights down, open our hearts and minds to the stories of your generation, and read between the lines. Don't miss this chance to be a part of an event for high schoolers filled with creativity, expression, and community. See you there!
