Exploring Computer Science
Quarter 1 Newsletter - Ms. Daniels
Welcome to Exploring Computer Science
I am looking forward to working with all of you and your children this school year. Although I have been developing and delivering technology instruction to teens and adults for more than 16 years (my oldest student was 96!), Exploring Computer Science is a course that is new to Chicago Public Schools and Wells High School. Your child is part of an exciting national and world-wide initiative that aims to bring computer science courses to every student. Every student deserves to engage in the exciting world of computer science.
Our learning experiences during the second quarter will include: programming fundamentals and concepts, and web page development and design. Students will also take part in a world-wide initiative called the Hour of Code on December 9, 2014. Take a peek at the Hour of Code on YouTube by visiting the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH7AjDMz_dc.
I look forward to sharing about the things that we will discover during the second quarter, but until then, take a look at some of what we explored during the first quarter.
Building Community
Students had multiple opportunities to reflect on the practices that build up and break down communities, as they engaged in online discussions, created comics, and designed community posters to discourage negative behaviors within the school.
