Tuesdays TIP
The P's of Practicing ~ Mr. Scott Sheehan
PURPOSE
Always have a goal for everything that you play; ask yourself, "What am I trying to accomplish/improve by playing this selection?"
PLAN
Don't forget the components of a quality practice session:
- warm-up
- scales
- technical exercises
- melodic/lyrical development
- assigned repertoire
- something fun that you enjoy
PREPARATION
- Is your space quiet?
- Do you have your materials? - instrument, music, pencil, a music stand, etc.
- Possibly a mirror?
PATIENCE
Not everything can be done in one practice session; it takes time to develop skills.
PERSISTENCE
Don't give up ~ you can accomplish something even on your worst sounding days. There is a great deal of self-discipline, commitment, and reward in having a regular practice routine.
PRIDE
Feel good about your accomplishments and be aware of your strengths and areas that still need improvement
