Bee Cave Beehive
3.24.23
I know it's so hard to believe, but with three-quarters of the year behind us, we have begun the process of planning for the 2023-24 school year. To that end, I am sending you a Parent Input Form HERE. The deadline for form submission will be May 5, 2023.
Parent input is optional; however, it is your opportunity to provide information you feel is appropriate. We would like to gather your feedback, based on your perception of your child at home. All instructional staff will work with the administrative team to create classes based upon various consideration including those listed below:
*Student's educational needs
*Equalizing the numbers of students in ALL classes
*Balancing the numbers of boys and girls
*Balancing the ability levels and needs of classes
*Family input
Please refrain from requesting a specific teacher for your child. We will use your input below regarding your child's individual personality and learning style, in addition to current teacher feedback to make the best placement for your child. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored.
Wishes for everyone a great week!
Sincerely,
Principal Kellner

Mark your calendars for Bee Cave’s 2nd annual Books & Bees festival which will be filled
with authors for all age groups. Elementary kids will love the children’s tent, with
interactive activities like learning to draw like an illustrator, story time, graphic

panels to attend, one on the art of storytelling with three published authors and one on
fantasy novels. Adults have plenty to choose from as well with NYTimes bestselling thriller
authors, romance authors and humor authors. The education tent will include talks on
entrepreneurship and creating a perfect pollinator garden. You’ll also get a chance to
learn about beekeeping and keeping our environment pollinator-friendly! Register now to

GRADES 3, 4, 5 STAAR & HB4545: ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION
What is HB 4545?
What is accelerated instruction?
Accelerated instruction includes delivering supplemental instruction before or after school (including Saturday if needed) or embedded in the school day. Accelerated instruction delivered in summer will only satisfy the HB 4545 requirements if the criteria for supplemental instruction were met.

Library Reading challenges are meant to encourage independent reading. Allowing students to choose their own books for independent reading is a great start to improving a child’s love of reading. There are many ways to grow reading excitement, but giving students a choice in reading material and how they want to share their reading are great first steps. This challenge is mostly for intrinsic gratification for reading. However, if students want to share their completed log with me in the library in November and again in December, they are welcome to receive a reading bracelet or “fancy bookmark” to acknowledge their efforts.
Have fun!

Upcoming P.E. TEKS
March is Drug Awareness Month
Drug Awareness month was kicked off in assembly [before the break] with the help of Lake Travis Police Officer, Leif Dove. He spoke to the students about the dangers of alcohol, smoking and drugs modifying the presentation for the primary grades. During this month, students will also be studying new state requirements in health like refusal skills, health information and why it is important for their developing brains not to be exposed to these products. This all takes place during their PE Health Lessons on Thursday’s & Friday’s this month.
We will be celebrating Drug Awareness month during the week of March 27th - 31st as students dress up to the following themes:
Monday, March 27th - Crazy Hair Day – Say “NO” to drugs. We can have fun, play sports and
hang out with friends without making bad choices!
Tuesday, March 28th - College Jersey - I'm too smart for drugs & alcohol
Wednesday, March 29th - Crazy Socks - Sock it to smoking - causes cancer and heart disease
Thursday, March 30th - Wear Red Ribbon - Say “NO” to drugs, alcohol, smoking and vaping
(Ribbon given in Specials).
Friday, March 31 - Sign the Pledge Day- Build the wall outside the gym- Wall off Drugs,
Alcohol, Smoking & Vaping

LUNCH INFORMATION
If you are coming to eat with your child, only your child can join you for lunch. Also, when having lunch with your child, the stage is reserved for parents visiting.
Kindergarten.......10:15 to 10:45
1st Grade............11:30 to 12:00
2nd Grade...........12:05 to 12:35
3rd Grade............10:55 to 11:25
4th Grade............12:40 to 1:10
5th Grade..............1:15 to 1:45
Please visit the Bee Cave website to access the district’s Food and Nutrition (FANS) website to add money to your child’s lunch account, view your child’s purchases, access the daily menu, and to set restrictions for your child’s lunch. It is not permissible for the cafeteria and school staff to restrict your child’s purchases. Please take the time to review the FANS site and establish your child’s lunch account. It is suggested that all students have an account with a few days credit on it in case lunches or money are misplaced or forgotten.
We are still running one lunch line, so if you can send your child with a lunch that can give your child more time to eat. However, please know that your child can stay in the cafeteria to finish eating after the lunch is over if they need to.

A MakerSpace is an area that allows for creativity and innovation to occur so that all students have the opportunity to engage in learning experiences that allow them to make real life connections. For example, within this makerspace our students will have the freedom to design, engineer, fabricate, create, build and collaborate. Makerspaces provide students with a place to tinker and develop something that may not have been possible to create without a space with resources.
If you are interested in volunteering please contact Melanie Cravey @ craveym@ltisdschools.org and click the following link below to volunteer.
Links for student sign up for maker space will be shared once volunteers have signed up to facilitate the classes.

CAMPUS SECURITY
Safety and security is our top priority. We believe relationships are critical to successful schools, and ultimately, our families and students are the best partners in keeping our campuses safe. Our principals and school administrators investigate every reported tip or threat. We work with law enforcement and take quick and appropriate action, including notifying families, if there is a valid danger on campus.
We ask all of our families and students to please share any information regarding school or student safety by either directly contacting a school staff member or by using the Cavs Who Care Tip Line, our anonymous alert system. As LTISD grows, we will continue to explore and collaborate with other school districts to find new ways to improve safety and security at our campuses.
Standard Response Protocol
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the classroom response to an incident at school. Weather events, fire, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by students, teachers, staff and administration.
LTISD is expanding its safety program to include the Standard Response Protocol. The SRP is based on these five actions: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold. In the event of an emergency, the action and appropriate direction will be announced on the PA system.
Students and staff will be trained and the school will practice these drills over the course of the school year.
..........................................................................................................
Absences
Consistent school attendance is critical for the development of your child. When they miss school, we miss them! The entire school day is needed to deliver the full instructional program. Students need to come to school and attend the full day unless they have fever, a communicable disease, or family emergency. Help us communicate the importance of daily attendance to your child and schedule necessary appointments around school hours. When an absence is necessary, report the absence using Smart Tag. For questions regarding attendance concerns, please e-mail our Registrar, Irena Veliaots, at veliaotsi@ltisdschools.org. A note explaining any absence is required upon the student’s return to school.
