Food bank in the news #1
" Hunger, a silent epidemic that affects seniors, children, adults, and entire families. The troubling statistic is that 780,000 people, in a place as affluent as the Bay Area (Alameda County), are at risk of going hungry.
" Five of our Bay Area food banks are a part of a national network called Feeding America. A study by the nonprofit organization found that nearly 49 million people, or one in every seven Americans, rely on food pantries and meal service programs to feed themselves and their families. The problem is worse in the military, where one in every four military families needs some sort of food assistance. Nationall, 43% of the recipients are white, 26% black, and 20% Hispanic.

On Jweekly.com a post was done on ACCFB on December 31, 2014. It stated
" Dan McClosky was beaming when he was presented with a $1 million check last week — but the money wasn’t for him.
Rather, the dollar figure on the oversized check represented the total amount raised over the years by the Holiday Dinner Drive, which McClosky started 16 years ago. The initiative, which raises money for local food banks, pulled in its millionth dollar during the recent holiday season.
The Holiday Dinner Drive has raised $1,042,000 since its start, including a 2014 figure of $62,263 as of the last week of December"
Food bank in the n the news #3
"While the Bay Area unemployment rate is at its lowest rate in years, a new national survey says one in five Alameda County residents gets food from the Alameda County Food Bank- a rate higher than the national average and more then the last time the survey was taken in 2010.
The results were part of the Hunger in America 2014 study. Commissioned by Feeding America, the national network of Food Banks, the survey found that 1 in 7 Americans relies on food banks. But food demand among the needy is growing even faster in the East Bay, where 1 in 6 residents needed help four years ago, according the the last national study."
