Thankful for Family
Missing School Life
Looking forward to life again
From the Principal
Hawkins Families,
I can't believe we are at the last week of school. As I thought about the way the year is ending, I chose these three pictures to help me stay focused. I am so thankful that my family is safe and we have gone through this together. Though my oldest daughter's life has been stressful and we worry about her, but we are so proud of her and what she is doing. The time I have got to spend with my other two daughters and grandma has been time I would have never had. The game nights and move nights will be something I will always remember. I have to keep remembering that no matter what our beliefs are or where we stand on all of this, we all know that family is first. The second picture is to remind me of my Hawkins family and how much I miss them. Hawkins has quickly become such a part of my life, and I truly miss seeing all these faces everyday. Finally, I look forward to the day we can get back to all the parts of our life we have had to push to the side. I am a fastpitch softball pitcher and spend my summers traveling around the nation pitching. All tournaments have been cancelled this summer, so this will be very different for me. It makes me appreciate how much I love stepping on the mound with my team, and all the little things I can't wait to do again.
With that being said we move forward. A lot of you have been asking what next year will look like, and I truly don't know. We have all seen that some districts are already announcing what next year will look like, but I truly don't think we can make a decision like that right now, too much can change. For me personally, I will plan for a return to school with children in the building, and make the necessary changes to keep our students safe. This would be my dream, but as a district we will also be better prepared if we should have to go to an online model or a hybrid model. I will plan on continuing to communicate with you throughout the summer, and will keep you informed as I learn what next year will look like. As your principal I will be available all summer, so don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns. I would have never dreamed when the year started that this is how it would end. I so look forward to getting to experience all of the end of the year traditions that Hawkins has, and creating new ones together. Thanks for making me feel so welcome, I am so proud to be your principal.

4th Grade Virtual Talent Show
The 4th grade talent show has been a tradition at Hawkins for many years, and we are excited to say we will be continuing the tradition this year. Due to the change in learning environment, we will be changing this to a virtual talent show. 4th grade students can submit recorded acts, with time limits of 30 seconds to 1 minutes. Be creative; sing a song, do a dance, juggle, tell jokes, show a talent, the sky's the limit. We will also have a few surprise staff acts. Please submit all recorded acts to Mr McAuliffe at mcauliffec@brightonk12.com by Tuesday June 2. The show will be made available Friday, June 4th in the evening.
Thank You and Help Needed
I want to thank the Vollbrecht family for purchasing a subscription to Generation Genius for the entire school. This is a great science resource with activities, fun videos and great information for students at all levels. You can go to Mrs. Wells STEAM Padlet for easy access. Thank you so much for finding this and providing it for Hawkins.
Help Needed
Many of you have emailed me asking to let you know if we have any families in need of anything. You have donated supplies, devices and gift cards. This is so appreciated. I have a family in need of printer cartridges, so that their children can complete assignments. If you are able to help please email me. I looked up the cartridges, (950 & 951), and they run about $120 for the color and black combo pack.
Online Feedback Survey
During this time, it is more important than ever to hear back about what we can do to best support our families. We ask that you take a few moments to fill out this brief BAS Online Learning survey. Your feedback is essential to ensure that, with this new way of learning, we continue to provide high-quality experiences for our students so they can continue to grow and be successful.
If you have more than one student enrolled in the district, please fill out one survey for each student, as your feedback may vary. This will ensure that we collect the most accurate data and will provide information to help us plan for the future.
The overall findings and feedback from this survey will remain anonymous and will help identify what district supports are effective and which areas our students and families may need additional support during this time. As a district, we are always striving towards continuous improvement.

Brighton Area Schools 2020-2021 Enrollment
NEW Kindergarten Enrollment!
It is crucial that we get accurate enrollment numbers for Kindergarten for staffing. If you have a Kindergartner for the 20-21 school year please complete the enrollment process as soon as possible. https://www.brightonk12.com/Page/6990. If you have any issues with this please just reach out to me.
2020-21 New Enrollment Update: Brighton Area Schools enrollment office will resume the collection of new enrollments starting next week with an alternate electronic document collection process since face-to-face appointments are not an option at this time. Updated instructions and the link to upload your student’s information and documents will soon be available to you on the Enrollment webpage for child’s grade level (by Tuesday, April 14th). There are checklists available online to help you prepare your documents -- email our offices should you need any clarification or have any questions. ALL requirements for entry will remain the same. You will have the most success if you double check that you have all necessary documents, make sure they are complete and signatures of parents are present in all areas where indicated. Keep in mind our staff will be working from home best they can -- your patience and kindness is expected and appreciated. Office emails to contact if needed are below:

Student Placement information- many of you contacted me after I sent out the placement questionnaire for Hawkins, wondering if their was something like that at Maltby. This is what I found out:
Student Information Sheet…
Parents please note that we have Student Information Forms available on our Maltby Counseling page. This year it is an online form. This form gives parents the option of communicating anything they feel should be taken into consideration as we begin compiling next year’s schedule for students. It should be noted that this is not a teacher request form and is completely optional. If you opt to fill out the form please do so by May 18th- again this is an optional form and not necessary for scheduling.
Email/Phone Number and Address Changes

McKinney Vento Act
The Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium to serve students in temporary living situations that provides financial support for educational needs, referral for housing, clothing and other needs, general support and technical assistance. To ensure compliance with federal law, all school staff must help identify student living in the following situations: emergency shelters/transitional housing, motels/hotels, car, parks or public spaces, shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic hardship, or living temporarily with non-parent or guardian.
The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite and each building has trained staff members to assist in the endeavor. Our consortium contact at the Livingston Educational Service Agency is Candice Uyttendaele.
Please contact your building principal or Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040 for information/assistance.
