Tchaikovsky's Early Life
Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky was born on May 7, 1840 in Votkinsk, Russia. Tchaikovsky had a very supportive father. Ilya Petrovich was a magistrate who lived on a large estate with many serfs. his mother, Alexandra was his father's second wife. After his first wife died he married Alexandra. Alexandra brought music into the Tchaikovsky family, hosting musical soirees in Votkinsk. His mother was a wonderful lady, but kept her distance from them. Alexandra cared about her reputation in Votkinsk as a lady of the Tchaikovsky family. Tchaikovsky had a half-sister, Zinaida Ilya's and his first wife's daughter, his other sister Aleksandra. He had four brothers Modest, Anatoly, Ippotily, and Nikolai. He had a nanny named Fanny, she loved the french culture, which alexandra also adored. She assisted the children and their education. fanny Dürback was 22 years old and was a French Protestant. Peter was a soft hearted little boy who one day left home and nobody could find him. Supposedly he was trying to find a home for a kitten who was one of his father's serf's cats.
Tchaikovsky's childhood home
Tchaikovsky's home in Votkinsk was a bright yellow mansion with many serfs working for his father, Ilya Petrovich. Tchaikovsky lived with his whole family in their Votkinsk home. The home now is a museum that has his music and the influences of his in the classical and romantic era. In Votkinsk is mother Alexandra and half sister Zinaida also lived there with his brothers and sisters.

Tchaikovsky was not a virtuoso pianist, he went to Nikolay Rubinstein at the Moscow conservatory when he asked for advice on his first musical writing piece. Rubinstein thought it was terrible and it was too complicated. Tchaikovsky was devastated that his piece wasn't right. He dedicated this piece to Rubinstein, instead wrote it for a famous German virtuoso, pianist, and conductor, Hans von Bülow. People loved this music, his performance was amazing. It was exteremley popular in the romantic period.

Tchaikovsky's legacy
When Tchaikovsky was three years old he became a love for music. One day Ilya Petrovich brought home an orchestrion. An orchestrion is a barrel organ with lots of pipes of various lengths and sizes to represent the instruments in an orchestra. In April 1874, tchaikovsky's opera The Oprichnik premiered. Nikolay Rubinsteinled the entire staff of the Moscow Conservatoire. It was a very successful production and Tchaikovsky took it well. tchaikovsky got commissioned from a musical magazine. Tchaikovsky is now a world known musician.
