Whiteley Wildcat Update
March 31, 2020
We have embarked on a new platform of learning this week-Distance Learning! I am sure that the first few days will take some adjusting both sides of the computer. The teachers have planned activities and lessons that will enrich and continue the learning of our students. We realize that this will take some time to adjust and as a staff we truly appreciate your patience and insight. Many of the staff members are parents themselves, and are navigating overseeing Distance Learning while ensuring their own children are getting their work done. Our staff will be available during the Distance Learning hours to answer emails, and provide feedback to students. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions.
Facebook and Emails.
We want our community to stay connected in the best way possible, and one of those ways is through Facebook and emails. The Whiteley staff will be placing different videos and pictures up on our Facebook page, if you haven’t visited our page I would encourage you to do so. The district is also updating their Facebook page each night with a new story being read by a variety of staff members. I have enjoyed the stories not only from our staff members but from the entire District 15 community. I want to also encourage you to be on the lookout from emails not only from myself, but from the district and your child’s teacher.
In the past it was common practice for weekly pictures to be shared on our Facebook page. Many families have shared that they enjoyed seeing the different pictures throughout the week and being able to see a glimpse into the lives of their children while at school. We would love to continue to post pictures of our students learning, even though it may look different. Feel free to email pictures of your children doing their reading, math, physical education, music, or art to Mrs. Rivera. She can gather weekly photos and place them on the Facebook page.
Social Emotional Learning
Our social worker has created a site for parents to visit and glean ideas on how to discuss our current reality with their children. There are some videos, some different strategies and talking points. She will also be updating her site with different information in the future. Here is Mrs. Shin’s site. Teachers will also receive activities from Mrs. Shin to include within their lessons for families to use. If needed you can reach out to Mrs. Shin, Mrs. Felz, or Mrs. Eltherington during this time if you need support. We are all in this together!
