Family Friendly Parent Survey
We are participating in the Family/Friendly School Program through the Indiana Department of Education. The purpose of the program is to focus on addressing the academic, physical, emotional and social needs of students while providing the needed resources and fostering the active involvement of their families through schools and the community. Your feedback is important to us. Please take a few minutes and respond to this survey that was provided by the DOE. We appreciate your time.

Congratulation to our Spell Bowl Team!
The Thomas Jefferson Middle School Spell Bowl team burst into the competition spotlight last night at the Willowcreek Invitational by posting a perfect score of 72. Team captain Isabel Pati was assisted in the winning effort by leadoff man Micah Nathan, followed by Emmett Richter, Lily O’Quinn, Devishi Jha, Shannon McCall, Teresa Nelson, and Keaton Olson. All 8 spellers completed perfect rounds, mastering such stumpers as extemporaneous, neurasthenic, nefarious, and au pair.
TJ’s B team of Talyn Watkins, David Coombs, Dillon Rodriguez, Haley Klein, Charlie Moye, Meg Calumpang, Ricky Hall, and Ashley Karns trailed the champs by only 10 words, amassing 62 points during the contest. That score put the B team in third place, one point behind the second place A team. However, the B team scores did not count towards the evening’s ribbons. Way to go, B team!
Team members Carson Brooks, Aidan MacKenzie, and Vanessa Phipps flipped score cards and cheered for Team TJ.
The Spell Bowl travels to Kankakee Valley on Tuesday, November 3, to compete in the Area meet. This contest determines which 8 teams will spell at the state finals on November 14 at Purdue University.
Congratulations to Team TJ on your perfect showing last evening, and good luck at KV!
8th Grade become the Fighting Irish
7th Boo-Gatta
The day continued with some truly “mind-boggling” activities. Students created some very original Limericks, were Ohhing and Ahhing over some local folklore, and even took a bite out of some true creepy crawlers. The students had some interesting responses after trying the “bug brownies” and the toasted mealworms.
“They [mealworms] started out tasting like almonds and ended up tasting like milk!”
“These have a nutty taste!”
“It’s crunchy like a peanut!”
Thank you 7th graders for a great ending to the 1st quarter. The teachers had fun working with you and are very proud of you teamwork!
6TH GRADE HAS SUCCESS
November begins with our students studying many topics. Social Studies classes recently finished up studying Canada and Russia. The next unit of study will be Greece. States of Matter is the next chapter to be covered in Science. Math students should now be able to easily convert numbers from fractions, decimals, and percents. Language Arts and Literature classrooms are busy writing and reading fiction and nonfiction sources. Remember Moby Max is a great online resource to brush up on math, science, language arts, and reading skills.
