Mission Ridge Elementary
Owl News, Week of December 6th
Message From Mr. Jesus Mendez, Mission Ridge Principal
We have ten more days before we wrap up our fall semester. We would like to make these days count by making sure we have your help in making sure your child is in school all day every day when they are good and healthy. We appreciate your support and collaboration as we work to ensure all of our scholars meet their academic goals.
Attendance.
Be sure your child is present each day they are healthy. The state of Texas holds administrators and parents accountable for attending school daily. At 5 absences, I will ask that you hold a meeting with our Attendance Administrator to ensure we are working together to educate your child. Please help support our teachers by bringing in your children ready to learn. We thank you for making attendance a priority.
Students with 6 or more absences up until now are now falling below 90% of their instructional time. These students will need to initiate a 45 Day Attendance Improvement Plan and be required to attend Loss of Credit (LOC) sessions.
Pedestrian Safety
Pedestrian safety is an initiative we are starting in #TeamSISD. I want to remind you to please slow down when you are driving around our school, stay off your cell phones and be aware of students who may be crossing. I also want to remind your children about the importance of using crosswalks when walking to and from school or getting off the bus.
Breakfast in the Classroom.
Our district will provide breakfast in the classroom for ALL scholars. Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) will be served daily from 7:15 AM to 7:30 AM. Please be on time to take advantage of the most important meal of the day.
Change of Clothes.
Please send a change of clothing for scholars in PK, Kinder and 1st graders. In a plastic bag, place a shirt, short, under garment and socks. When the children has an accident, you will be notified. Please check your child's backpack daily.
Picking Up Students.
Due to traffic, we will not be able to release students after 2 PM. If you have a doctor's appointment, please pick them up before 2 PM so that you can make your appointment.
Safety
The building will be cleaned throughout the day in high traffic areas to ensure safety. We will have hand sanitizing stations at all classrooms, restrooms, cafeteria and playground. If you wish for your child to wear a mask, please send them with a mask that fits them comfortably. If you requested a shield for your child's desk, they will have access to a shield. We will all monitor and collaborate to keep our team and families safe!
HB 4545
House Bill 4545 is a recent law that requires accelerated instruction to help support student learning loss. Regardless of grade, students that failed or did not test a STAAR subject qualifying assessment for a course that they were enrolled in last year require 30 hours of Targeted accelerated Instruction (TAI). Currently teachers are keeping track of this support time as it is being provided; however, Having students in school is a great way to provide them with the accelerated learning they need. Please have your child in school all day, every day.
Thank you for your continued support! We are blessed with an amazing learning community! Together, we are better!
Let's make Week 16 #Owlsome!!
Respectfully,
Jesus Mendez , Proud Mission Ridge Principal
