October 7th
Dear Parents,
I hope you had a good weekend!
* We have the Living Rosary and Benediction this Monday.
* Friday is a Mass day and half day.
* Thank you in advance to all of the parents who offered to volunteer for our Pumpkin Science Lab on Oct. 18th. I am still needing 2 more volunteers. I will send an email with more information to the volunteers at the beginning of that week.
Week's Plans
Reading/Phonics:
In Reading this week we will focus on Oliver the Elephant by Syd Hof. We will work on decoding, vocabulary, and comprehension with this story. We will learn about the author, Syd Hof. We will then compare and contrast three of the Syd Hof stories that we have read.
In our Phonics lessons this week, we will learn how to read and spell:
* digraph ck
* consonant k in the final position of words
* blend sm
Please have your child practice reading to you each night to reinforce the phonics’ skills that they are learning in class.
Religion
We will be learning about the liturgical calendar this week and the Rosary.
L.A
We will write our first Key Word Outline. Students will learn how choose important words from sentences to create an outline. They will then practice retelling a story using their outline. They will also learn how to add –ly adverbs in front of verbs.
Science: We will be learning about Energy.
Math: We will continue learning strategies for subtraction. We will identify the relationship between addition and subtraction and learn about fact families.
