6th Grade W.E.B. Wednesday
Our 6th grade students watched a video clip of Dr. King's biography and discussed how it tied into the character traits of kindness and acceptance. We then worked in homerooms to create an "I Have A Dream" Hands Board to celebrate student differences. The 6th grade students told their W.E.B leaders things that were about themselves that make them special and unique. We traced our hands and put the things that may us special on them. The message that was shared was to take pride in who we are and to accept others differences. We learned that kindness, friendship, and supporting each other are all acts that make a strong and accepting society. They are important to building good character and strong relationships.

7th Grade W.E.B. Wednesday
The 7th graders started the activity watching a short video on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Students discussed the idea that all people are able to live in a world where differences are respected. We talked about what makes us and our classmates unique. We then were given squares of a head, torso and legs and were asked to create a unique person. We then cut out the boxes and put them in different piles and made unique people out of the boxes. Each group introduced them to the class and explain their unique qualities. We learned that it is OK to be different and we should respect all people for their unique characteristics.

8th Grade W.E.B. Day
The 8th grade class watched a portion of the "I Have A Dream Speech" and talked about what Dr. King hoped the world would look like in the future. We then completed a digital vision board using Google slides including words and images that represented the things we wanted in life. Students included things that we cared about, that we wanted to improve, that we wanted to do or accomplish, personal goals, vision for the future and how we see the world. We were then able to see what everyone created and had a chance to appreciate how others see the world and compare our similarities and differences.

The 7th Grade Love Chain
Spreading Words of Encouragement & Kindness
During the last week of January, the 7th grade class officers met for our monthly meeting. We discussed some ideas that the entire 7th grade can do for February. All of our ideas were jotted down onto a google doc and we voted on which idea we would use. We decided to go with the paper love chain idea.
The next following week at the start of February, we had another meeting on jotting down some quotes, phrases and general words of kindness to put on the papers for kids who did not know what to put. It turned out to be a big success and kids took advantage of the help. They got to make a positive link for those who might need some words of encouragement!!
Later the next day, we began cutting out thin pieces of pink, white and red strips for the links. After that, they were evened out and sent to both math classes (Mrs. Iwanicki and Mrs. Mercuri ) to be filled in by the kids during their math classes.
Once each student had filled one out, they were sent out to the 7th grade officers to be turned into a chain! Emily Donahue and Addison Lambert took time to connect each link to each other to make a large chain to hang up on the 7th grade bulletin board outside the library. They spelled out the word LOVE on the board with the links for everyone to see when they walked past the board. Many students of each grade stopped to look whenever they had the chance to walk past it.
This activity was a great way to remind students to spread love and kindness throughout the day and to celebrate Valentine’s Day as well.
Technology Class Shows Depew Pride
Students in Mr. Nolan's Technology class wanted to show their DMS Wildcat pride. They worked with Mr. Nolan to design and build a Depew themed bench for the main office. We are beyond impressed with the craftmanship and team work that went into this project! The students even signed the bench leaving a permanent mark on DMS!
