Dear SHMS Families:
The end of the first marking period ends in just two weeks. Please reach out to your child’s teachers or school counselor if they need any support as we finish the first quarter of the school year. This week SHMS had a visit from the Fire Marshal as we conducted our second fire drill of the year. In addition, students took part in a lockdown drill on Thursday. Both staff and students did a great job following procedures and meeting our Panther Pride expectations during both drills. Agenda books have finally arrived. We are moving quickly to get agenda books organized and distributed. We received student pictures today. Look for pictures to come home next Tuesday. Don’t forget that next week is SHMS Spirit Week. The themes for Tuesday and Thursday were switched around since my last blast. Please see the flyer below.

Red Ribbon Week
The 2021 National Red Ribbon Week Theme is , Drug Free Looks Like Me™, created by Marin Wurst, a 7th grader at Solon Middle School in Solon, Ohio. The Theme is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free!
Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. In honor of Kiki's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin. Parents then began to form coalitions using Camarena as their model while embracing his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the Red Ribbon. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. -From redribbon.org
During Red Ribbon Week next week, SHMS students will be exposed to valuable lessons and messages promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
Join the Panther Paw-sitivity Club in fighting childhood cancer!
The club has teamed up with the Little Hero Foundation to take part in a service project called "Gold Pumpkins for the Cure"! This is an easy project for families to take part in through the end of October. For every gold pumpkin you decorate, $1 will be donated to pediatric cancer research thanks to a grant from the Little Hero Foundation. Please see the below flyer for more details!
