Bee Cave Beehive
12.2.22
I hope everyone is doing well. This first semester has flown by and I cannot believe that we are in December. This time of year is so exciting because there is so much going on and the weather is fun for the kids. Please do not forget about the grade level parties on the 14th and 15th (times and dates are listed below). I sure hope everyone enjoys their winter break that begins in a couple of weeks. Wishes for you and your family relaxation and/or safe travels.
In years past, I have set up a merchandise store [as a trail run] for staff to have the opportunity to purchase additional BCE Spirit wear. This year I am opening up the store and extending the opportunity to staff, students and parents. My Team Shop for Bee Cave Elementary is open now through December 16th. Please know that this is not a fundraiser and the school does not make any proceeds from this store. This is solely an opportunity for staff, students, and parents to purchase Bee Cave Elementary merchandise. There are items for adults and children. Buy what you want and it will be shipped directly to your house. Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Kim

District provides update on transportation services
With only a few weeks remaining in the fall semester, District officials continue to address staffing shortages impacting student transportation services.
"We have hired 7 drivers and 1 monitor since the first day of school on August 16," said Brad Bailey, LTISD Assistant Superintendent of Operations. "This has allowed us to add drivers to routes in service areas outside of the two-mile radius. While this has helped, we are still short of the ideal number of drivers needed to provide services for the students who have requested transportation. To reach this goal, we would need to hire 13 more drivers in order to eliminate the current 'one-week on/one-week off' schedule. Overall, approximately 30 drivers are needed for restoring full transportation services. Rest assured, we will continue to increase our services as more drivers are hired and certified."
Many parents have asked about a long term solution to a problem affecting many school districts.
"I can tell you that we are working to attract and retain drivers, but it is a difficult task due to a lack of interest and staff shortages we not only face in our area but throughout our region, state, and nation," added Mr. Bailey. "Regardless, our team is motivated and actively recruiting candidates by attending job fairs and community events, utilizing social media, and advertising. We thanks our parents and families for their cooperation and patience as we continue to navigate through these challenges together."
If you or someone you know is interested in driving a bus for LTISD, we encourage you to contact the District's Transportation Department at 512-533-6070, or at leed@ltisdschools.org. The District's starting pay is $23.00 per hour and up to $33.11 per hour based on experience. We welcome all to apply, and no experience is needed. We provide all training and full benefits, and our drivers get holidays and summers off.

Library Reading challenges are meant to encourage independent reading. Allowing students to choose their own books for independent reading is a great start to improving a child’s love of reading. There are many ways to grow reading excitement, but giving students a choice in reading material and how they want to share their reading are great first steps. This challenge is mostly for intrinsic gratification for reading. However, if students want to share their completed log with me in the library in November and again in December, they are welcome to receive a reading bracelet or “fancy bookmark” to acknowledge their efforts.
Have fun!
Mrs. Bingham, BCE Librarian

Please visit the Bee Cave website to access the district’s Food and Nutrition (FANS) website to add money to your child’s lunch account, view your child’s purchases, access the daily menu, and to set restrictions for your child’s lunch. It is not permissible for the cafeteria and school staff to restrict your child’s purchases. Please take the time to review the FANS site and establish your child’s lunch account. It is suggested that all students have an account with a few days credit on it in case lunches or money are misplaced or forgotten.
We are still running one lunch line, so if you can send your child with a lunch that can give your child more time to eat. However, please know that your child can stay in the cafeteria to finish eating after the lunch is over if they need to.

A MakerSpace is an area that allows for creativity and innovation to occur so that all students have the opportunity to engage in learning experiences that allow them to make real life connections. For example, within this makerspace our students will have the freedom to design, engineer, fabricate, create, build and collaborate. Makerspaces provide students with a place to tinker and develop something that may not have been possible to create without a space with resources.

CAMPUS SECURITY
Safety and security is our top priority. We believe relationships are critical to successful schools, and ultimately, our families and students are the best partners in keeping our campuses safe. Our principals and school administrators investigate every reported tip or threat. We work with law enforcement and take quick and appropriate action, including notifying families, if there is a valid danger on campus.
We ask all of our families and students to please share any information regarding school or student safety by either directly contacting a school staff member or by using the Cavs Who Care Tip Line, our anonymous alert system. As LTISD grows, we will continue to explore and collaborate with other school districts to find new ways to improve safety and security at our campuses.
Standard Response Protocol
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the classroom response to an incident at school. Weather events, fire, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by students, teachers, staff and administration.
LTISD is expanding its safety program to include the Standard Response Protocol. The SRP is based on these five actions: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold. In the event of an emergency, the action and appropriate direction will be announced on the PA system.
Students and staff will be trained and the school will practice these drills over the course of the school year.

Absences
Consistent school attendance is critical for the development of your child. When they miss school, we miss them! The entire school day is needed to deliver the full instructional program. Students need to come to school and attend the full day unless they have fever, a communicable disease, or family emergency. Help us communicate the importance of daily attendance to your child and schedule necessary appointments around school hours. When an absence is necessary, report the absence using Smart Tag. For questions regarding attendance concerns, please e-mail our Registrar, Irena Veliatos, at veliatosi@ltisdschools.org. A note explaining any absence is required upon the student’s return to school.
