Jack the ripper
James Creel
background information
Jack the Ripper is the best known name given to an unidentified serial killer generally believed to have been active in the poorer areas in and sometimes around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The name "Jack the Ripper" originated in a letter written by someone claiming to be the murderer. there are five known killed by him but many believe that there are more than them all were woman
perspective #1
Aaron Kosminski, Thomas Cutbush and Montague John Druitt where three that the media named. Granted then the list was larger then but over the years those three still remain (not alive but still considered the killer). Much like the letters these suspected names probably weren't correct but they boosted the actual killers confidence which would explain his messages to the police
perspective #2
The media made a mockery of the police in there efforts to catch the ripper. Woman where afraid to walk the streets at night in fear of being next. They wrote of the horrific killings and even gave him the catchy nickname jack the ripper. I believe that with the media it spawned a bunch of false jacks who would write to the police and they didn't know which where real and which where fake helping fuel his identity
media Bias
the media was anti ripper and who wouldn't be against a person who murders others. however that doesn't mean they weren't going to use his ghastly murders for a good and interesting story to gain popularity.
critcism #1
the first criticism i see is female criticism seeing how all of his victims where female. Which lead to when more female murders happened around Whitechapel they assumed it was the ripper again. he is known to have murdered 5 and some have accused him to have murdered six others between 1888 and 1891. Many believe at first he assaulted and murdered prostitutes.
criticism #2
The other criticism i see is historical criticism. Its an old story so not many records remain except a few pictures of his victims and letters written to the police of the "killer". Then he was considered a monster and still is one today but due to his horrific crimes he is still famous. his story is used in pop culture today be it video games or shows.
