Interested In Being Your Child's Room Parent?
Congratulations, Maple Mustangs, on successfully completing your first few weeks of school!!! By now, we are all in full swing and are getting to know our new teachers.
My name is Sarah Khalil, and I am excited to serve as this year’s Classroom Parent Coordinator.
Obviously, Classroom Parent activities look a bit different right now, but we can still virtually partner with our AMAZING teachers and staff with enthusiasm! For example, facilitating the seasonal themes (Happy Halloween ghosts and jack-o-lanterns 🎃, colorful hand print turkeys, and whimsical winter snowflakes ❄️, etc.), that blossom on our Community Maple Tree is a great way for our kids and families to connect. We are also planning a “gratitude” letter drive by each class for our front-line workers. Our kids love to celebrate and honor our teachers, so we will find out teacher and staff birthdays, a list of their likes, and organize making birthday cards, letters, or signs. And, of course, let’s not forget Teacher Appreciation Week 😊.
I know that I am in the midst of so many creative spirits, so PLEASE feel free to share any and all ideas!
All it takes is a bit of communication, organization, and coordination. (Classrooms may have more than one parent volunteer.) Volunteering as Classroom Parent is such fun and really a great way to show our appreciation for Maple School! Knowing that the return on your small time investment are the smiles and excitement of our kids to participate in virtual group projects for their teacher(s), staff, and School is well worth it.
Please sign up by Friday, September 11 at khalilgerner@gmail.com with:
- your name
- contact information
- child’s name
- grade
- classroom teacher(s)
I am confident that each of our classroom teachers will have at least one volunteer (so much fun to have a partner to share in brainstorming and executing), so I encourage you to sign up for the school year. I look forward to connecting with each of you - and remember - we are all in this together, so I’m here to get you started and throughout the year for ideas and support!!!!
Thanks so much,
Sarah

PFA News!
Thank you to those who joined us for our first general PFA meeting through ZOOM. It was great to hear everyone's thoughts on how we can support Maple and our teachers during the 2020/2021 school year. One of the main topics at this meeting was our budget for the year. As you may be aware, many of the programs and events that the PFA typically supports are currently discontinued for this semester. We recognize that many people in our Maple community are currently experiencing financial hardships, or may have financial challenges in the near future. With all of this in mind, the decision was made to forgo hosting a Fall Fundraiser, which we typically schedule to start the year to kick off our fundraising efforts.
The PFA will still be supporting the school and our Maple community this year. We provided every student with a dry erase sleeve to start the year, and we are continuing the classroom supply support for our teachers. We plan to continue our Holiday Craft Fair as a take home craft and are brainstorming other ways to bring our community together so that we still feel tied to Maple and each other. In order to allow for some of these events to happen, we hope that you can continue to support us by:
1. When you shop at Amazon, please sign in with AmazonSmile. Select your charity as ‘Maple Elementary Parent Faculty Association’. (PLEASE NOTE a change in 2020: You can now sign up on your mobile account).
2. Have Maple PFA paired on your Ralphs/Kroger rewards card.
3. Local Restaurant Nights. Restaurant nights are a great way to support the school while giving your family an excuse to take a break from making dinner (or lunch)! These local restaurants typically donate 15-33% of the sales back to Maple on the day/night of the event. Check back in future newsletters as we will announce the dates/times/locations when our Maple restaurant nights will be held.
Thank you and we hope to see some of you at our next meeting on September 22nd at 6 PM via Zoom!
