Know Your Why
Why do you do what you do? This video may not only be beneficial for you but your students as well. Your why drives your purpose. As the singer performed with the "why" in mind, it motivated people around him into action. The audience became involved. When we teach and live our lives with our why as the driving force, we, in turn, motivate others around us. When you know your why your what has more impact because you're walking in or towards your purpose. So as you go through out this week, and the coming weeks, remember your why. ~ L. PIerce
Tips for the Truama Informed Teacher
February- Black History Month
Thank you for those that have been using this month to highlight African Americans and allies on the journey to equity. If you are looking for short readings with vocabulary (wonder words), quizzes, and read aloud functions, Wonderopolis has 28 articles about slavery, civil rights, inventors, and Black culture, such as beat boxing, Zydeco, and giving dap as a greeting. I encourage you to share these readings with your students and engage them with the "try it out" section; you don't have to limit these to Black History Month. Here is the link for these readings.
https://www.wonderopolis.org/black-history-monthAlso, many of you have shown videos and read about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. One way to extend those lessons is through a mini writing assignment with the prompt, "My dream is..."If you find the time, I encourage you to allow your students to write their dreams, including their names. I have linked the template, sectioned for 4 student responses, below. These will be collected and displayed in the building for the remainder of the school year.

News for Arkansas Educators
PBIS Fidelity Inventory
In an effort to ensure that we are effectively teaching P.R.I.D.E expectations, students and teachers will be randomly asked to recite what P.R.I.D.E stands for. Please make sure you are teaching this every morning to your students and are familiar yourself.
P- Personal Responsibility
R- Respect
I- Integrity
D- Disciplined
E- Engaged
Students will also be asked a variety of questions concerning the last time they received P.R.I.D.E bucks and what they received them for. We are encouraging everyone to distribute them daily for good behavior. If you need more, please email Ms. Whitley or Mrs. Jones.
Nurse's Corner
Please keep in mind that we are still in the peak of flu season and of the importance of washing our hands so we can maintain good attendance in school. If you are sick, please stay home and help us prevent the spread of germs and illness in our district. Students and staff who have been sick must be fever/diarrhea free without the use of medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Any student or staff member with a fever of 100.4 F or above will be sent home! If you have been diagnosed with the flu please make sure to include that in your excuse letter so that the school nurse can keep a record of how many flu cases there have been this year. Remind parents to check their mail and student’s backpacks for letters regarding immunizations. If a student is turning 11 years old this month, they will be required to receive additional vaccines unless otherwise exempt. Parents must call and make an appointment with their doctor or the health department on or immediately following their child's birthday. They must also notify the school nurse of the date and time of the appointment.
