In The Laidlaw Loop
Family Update- February 2, 2024
The sunshine and warmer temps has been a welcome change for our students. They have been excited to be back out for classroom and lunch recess. And, everyone has appreciated the opportunity for some energy release.
Next week is a very special one here at Laidlaw. On Friday we will welcome our All Abilities Fair back for its 3rd time at Laidlaw. This is an incredibly special event held in February when we celebrate ALL students. We are looking forward to another successful fair and helping our Laidlaw Leopards learn even more about understanding differences and embracing inclusion. Each classroom 1st-5th grade will attend the All Abilities Fair for a 30 minute experience next Friday. Students will rotate through stations that simulate a wide range of neurodivergent experiences that other students may experience as they navigate through their own school day. It is an impactful learning event and I am so proud of the knowledge we empower our students with through our All Abilities Fair. Please see details below should you be interested in volunteering for this special event.
Also, I wanted to send a friendly reminder that next Wednesday, February 7th is an early dismissal day. School ends at 11:30AM so our staff can participate in professional development activities.
Happy Friday,
Renee
MAP scores, COGAT scores, and Snapshots
MAP Scores (2nd-5th graders), COGAT scores (3rd & 5th graders) and 1st grade snapshots will go home on Friday, February 9th.
Winter Climate Survey Reminder
Next week (February 5 - 9), all students in 1st - 5th grades will take our Winter Climate Survey; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders will take the survey at home with your guidance, and 4th-5th graders will take it at school. The survey helps us gauge and measure what matters most to us -- our students' wellbeing and thoughts/feelings about school. Parents of 1st-3rd graders, please watch for more information regarding the survey on Monday, February 5.
Valentine's Day Reminders
This is a friendly reminder that if your child chooses to pass out Valentine's Cards on February 14th, they may not pass out anything edible along with the cards (candy, chocolate, etc). Non-edible trinkets (erasers, pencils, stickers, etc) are permitted, yet not required.
Club Amigos Project- bracelet and bag SALE
Club Amigos will be selling pulseras and bolsitas to support the efforts of The Pulsera Project. Bracelets are $5 and bags are $15. We will be selling bracelets and bags during lunch on February 5th, 6th and 8th. Kindergarten bracelets will be sold in their classrooms. If you are interested, please send cash with your student on those dates. Gracias!
Laidlaw Loot All School Reward: Jan/Feb
Our current Laidlaw Loot incentive is a whole school reward. Students can earn BLUE loot starting now through Friday, February 16th. They can deposit their BLUE loots into the bins by the front office and vote on which all school reward they would most like to see win:
1. Build a fort and bring a flashlight day
2. Themed playlist at lunch and dress up day (ie: 80s playlist and wear your favorite 80s gear)
3. Crazy Hat & Hair Day (baseball caps allowed)
All Abilities Fair 2024
Laidlaw will be holding it's 3rd annual All Abilities Fair on Friday, February 9 and need volunteers to help make that happen. They are looking for parents to help lead morning or afternoon stations. The morning sessions will be from 8:45AM – 11:30AM, while the afternoon ones will be from 12:45PM – 3:15PM. Each class in grades 1st through 5th will be given a 30-minute time slot to attend the fair and participate in the various stations. The tentative schedule is for grades 1 – 3 to attend in the morning and grades 4-5 after lunch. Schedules are still being created though so that is subject to change.
We are looking forward to another successful fair and helping our Laidlaw leopards learn even more about understanding differences and embracing inclusion!
