What YOU need to know!!
Fair Use Guidelines
- Purpose and Character- nonprofit/educational vs for profit/entertainment
- Nature- factual vs creative
- Amount and Sustainability- little used vs much used
- Potential Market- no license vs license
Most Common Works Used
- Motion Media- 10% or 3 minutes (whichever is less) may be used for educational purposes
- Music, Lyrics, and Music Video- 10% but no more than 30 seconds may be reproduced or otherwise incorporated
- Illustrations and Photographs- no more than 5 images by an artist or photographer may be reproduced
- Student work- Credit must be given
Open Licensing
Types:
- GNU General Public License- software
- Creative Commons- free, easy-to-use copyright licenses
- Public Domain- open to public, not subject to copyright
- Website Specific Licenses- software license to users to install that involves several computers at a specific site or facility
FREE doesn't necessarily mean it is GOOD!!

Media in the Classroom
Ok-
- Obtained media legally and using for educational purposes
- Show more than once or every year
Not Ok-
- Make copies for students and distribute
- Not related to educational purposes
- Post on your teacher website
