Oedipus
Oedipus Laius and jocasta,the adopted son s is the biological son of Polybus an Merope . He marries Jocasta. Oedipus is the King of Thebes. He accidentally killed his father and married his mother; He is trying to stop the plague.
Laius
The great grandson of Cadmus. He received a prediction from an Oracle of Apollo that his son would kill him. He and his wife Jocasta decide to send a servant to kill their son by abandoning him on a mountain side. Instead of the servant killing Laius he gives him to the King and Queen of Corinth (King Polybus and Queen Merope). They named the boy Oedipus (twisted foot)
Cadmus
The founder of the city Thebes. He was instructed to kill a dragon and sow the dragons teeth to form a city. Form the dragons teeth came a race of giants who were fully armed and angry. They fought until five were left. the five giants whore survived became the fathers of Thebes.
Sophocles
Sophocles is the writer of the play of the life of Oedipus the King. Sophocles version is merely the end of a very long story.
Sphinx
A winged monster with the head of a woman and the body of a lion. The sphinx guarded the city of Thebes and killed anyone who failed to answer her riddle: What creature goes on four legs in the morning, two in the afternoon, and three in the evening? Oedipus who traveled to Thebes to escape his fate is the only man who is able to answer the sphinx riddle. the sphinx kills its self once Oedipus answers the riddle
Thebes
The city who was founded by Cadmus after he slew a dragon and was instructed to sow the dragons teeth together and make a city
Oracle of apollo
The oracle who predicts to Cadmus that his son will kill him.
Corinth
Corinth is the city ruled by King Polybus and Queen Merope. The king and queen who adopt king Laius son.
King Polybus and Queen Merope
The king and queen of Corinth. King Polybus and Queen Merope adopt a young boy who is given to them by a Shepard. they name him Oedipus who later becomes ruler of Thebes.
Jocasta
The Queen of Thebes and genetic mother of Oedipus. Jocasta and her husband Laius receive a prediction from a oracle that their son will kill her husband so she gives her son to a servant so he can kill it by abandoning it on a mountainside. The boy was never killed and grows up to kill his father and marry Jocasta (his mother) because they thought the boy had been killed as a baby.
Eteocles and Polynices
The sons of King Oedipus and Queen Jocasta. They are Oedipus's sons and brothers because Oedipus didn't know that Jocasta was his mother. Oedipus thought that King Polybus and Queen Merope were his real parents
Creon
King Oedipus Brother-in-law. Creon is sent by Oedipus to an oracle to ask how he can get rid of the plague in Thebes. He is instructed to tell Oedipus to find the murderer of King Laius.
Antigone and Ismene
The daughters of King Oedipus and Queen Jocasta. They are Oedipus's daughters and sisters because Oedipus didn't know that Jocasta was his mother. Oedipus thought that King Polybus and Queen Merope were his real parents
